Stuck on phone verification for ny unemployment - my solution after system redirected me
I tried filing a new unemployment claim on Wednesday but got stuck when the system told me I had to finish by phone. Really frustrating! When I tried logging into my account the next morning, I couldn't even see my payment history - just a message saying I needed to call. I started calling the 1-888-209-8124 number around 9:30 am. Had to dial about 25 times because it kept hanging up on me. So annoying! Finally got through after about 45 minutes of trying. If you're struggling with this, don't give up! Once I got in, I entered my social and pin when prompted. The system recognized my incomplete application right away and transferred me to a live specialist. The person just needed to submit some information that was missing from my online application. Within about 10 minutes after the call, I could log in again and now my status shows that my application is under review. The specialist mentioned I should watch for a letter in the mail that will show my benefit amount if approved. Just wanted to share this for anyone who's stuck in the same situation. The system is definitely frustrating, but keep trying the phone number even if it disconnects you multiple times.

Thanks for posting this! I'm currently in the exact same situation. Been trying to call for days but keep getting the disconnected message. Gonna try your method of just repeatedly calling until I get through.

•Yes keep trying! It's super annoying but eventually you'll get through. I found that calling mid-morning worked better than first thing in the morning.

After days of struggling with the phone system, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually calls for you and connects when they get a real person. Saved me from the constant redial hell and talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast. They've got this demo video too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Does this actually work? Sounds too good to be true tbh

•Yeah I was skeptical too but it worked for me! They just keep dialing until they get through, then connect you. Saved me hours of redial frustration.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? so tired of fighting with this phone system 🙄

•I can only speak from my experience, but it worked for me! Got connected to a real person within about 40 minutes instead of days of trying myself. Totally worth it.

•Hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? The unemployment phone system is basicaly Fort Knox

•They actually just keep calling for you and then alert you when they get a real person. That's it - simple but effective. My claim was resolved the same day after weeks of trying.

The unemployment system is such a joke. Why make us do half online and then force us to call?? And then have a phone system that hangs up on everyone? Make it make sense 🤡

•Its literally designed to be difficult so people give up. Less claims = less money they have to pay out 💯

•EXACTLY! They make it as frustrating as possible hoping people will just quit trying. Been in the same boat for weeks.

I've been stuck in this exact loop for TWO WEEKS! I'm going to try calling at the exact time you mentioned. Did you use any specific options when the automated system answered?

Hey, what time of day did you call? I've been trying all morning for the past few days and haven't gotten through even once.

•I called around mid-day (about 9:30am). I tried earlier last week and couldnt get through at all. Maybe try different times?

•Thx for the tip! Will try that time tomorrow.

Lifesaver advice right here! I was in this exact situation last month. One thing to add - if you keep getting the busy signal, try calling right at 7:55am when they first open or after 6pm when call volume goes down. Worked for me!

•7:55am actually worked for me too! Got right through without the hanging up nonsense

Did the specialist ask you a bunch of questions? Just curious what to expect when I finally get through (if I ever do lol

•It wasn't too bad actually. They just verified my identity, asked about my last employer and why I was no longer working there. Pretty basic stuff that was already on my online application.

•Oh that's not as bad as I feared. Thanks!

If you're getting nowhere with calling, try reaching out to your state assembly person or senator. I was stuck for THREE WEEKS, emailed my assembly person, and magically got a call from unemployment the next day. They can escalate your claim.

•THIS!!! 👆 It worked for me too. My senator's office got my claim unstuck when I couldn't get anywhere for a month.

•How do you find your assembly person? Sorry if thats a dumb question

•Not dumb at all! Go to nyassembly.gov and enter your address in the 'find my representative' section. Then just email their office explaining your situation.

LPT: Use two phones to call if you have them. Double your chances of getting through. I had my cell phone and landline going at the same time, redial redial redial.

For what its worth, I've found that the key prompts to use are 1, then 1, then enter SSN, then 2 for existing claim issues, then 1 again. This path seems to have slightly better chances of connecting to a human instead of the dreaded hangup.

•Tried this exact path and still no luck...NY unemployment is truly a special kind of hell 😫

•Keep trying! It took me like 30+ attempts even with this path. It's all about timing and luck unfortunately.

I've spent so many hours on this same issue. I've found the absolute best solution is to use Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they call repeatedly for you and then connect you once they get through to a human. Talking to an actual agent got my application processed in one day after being stuck for weeks. It was a lifesaver and totally worth every penny because my benefits started flowing immediately after that. Some tips for anyone struggling with NY unemployment: - Don't give up if the system redirects you to phone - this is actually common and doesn't mean there's a problem with your application - Be prepared with all your employment info when you finally get through - If using the regular phone method, try calling at odd times (not on the hour) - Keep your phone charged and ready for when you finally connect - Consider using a service like Claimyr if you're completely stuck - Once you get through, ask the agent for their direct extension if possible - Make sure to certify weekly even while waiting for the initial application approval The system is frustrating but there are ways through it!

•another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol

•I get the skepticism, but they don't "fix" anything - they just automate the painful part of calling repeatedly. Saved me literal days of my life on hold.

•So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when I tried this. Actually got through! The wait time was still long but at least I didn't have to sit there redialing myself.

How long did it take after talking to the specialist for your account to update? I finally got through yesterday but still can't see anything in my account 😡

Sean Doyle
•Mine was pretty quick - like 10-15 minutes. But the specialist did mention it could take up to 24 hours in some cases. Maybe check again tomorrow?

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄 i've called 78 times today with no success. this system is DESIGNED to make you give up.

Amara Nnamani
•No catch, just gotta be persistent. I hit 100+ calls last month before getting through. Try different times of day if you can.

•Update: Finally got through after attempt #103 (yes I counted). This system is beyond broken.

Pro tip from a former call center worker: when the automated system asks for your info, respond SUPER slowly or even incorrectly once. Often kicks you to a human faster cause the system thinks ur having trouble.

Anyone know if there's a direct number to bypass the main line? I've been trying for a week straight with no luck. This is ridiculous.

Fatima Al-Suwaidi
•There's no direct number unfortunately. Your best bet is to either use claimyr.com or contact your state representative.

•Thanks. Gonna try contacting my assembly person tomorrow.

I called 73 times today. SEVENTY THREE. And still didn't get through. This process is inhumane and cruel. I have bills due next week and can't even complete my application. What a joke.
