Need to resubmit 2019 work proof for NY unemployment - deleted email with instructions

I applied for NY unemployment benefits last month and got an email asking me to upload proof that I worked in 2019. Like an idiot, I accidentally deleted the email without saving the instructions or link. Now I'm completely lost on how to submit this documentation. The deadline is in 5 days and I'm freaking out! Has anyone gone through this recently? How do I resubmit proof of work documents? Do I just upload to my regular unemployment account somewhere or is there a special place? Really need help fast before they deny my claim!

Don't panic! You can still submit your 2019 work proof through your NY.gov account. Log in, go to your unemployment dashboard, and look for the 'Document Upload' section. There should be a pending request there with instructions. You'll need to upload things like W-2s, pay stubs, or a letter from your employer that shows you worked in 2019. Make sure the files are PDF, JPG, or PNG format and under 5MB each.

Thank you so much! I just checked my dashboard and you're right - there is a Document Upload section. It's showing a pending request that expires in 5 days. Huge relief!

had same prob last week... the link is in ur dashboard under messages not the main screen. they make it super confusing

Thanks! I found it under Documents rather than Messages, but you're right that it wasn't obvious at all.

I'm also in this boat right now! My deadline is tomorrow and I'm STILL struggling with the upload process. Every time I try to attach my W-2, the system freezes and logs me out. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a phone number I can call to talk to an actual person about this?? This system is RIDICULOUS!!

I went through this nightmare last month. Tried for THREE DAYS to get through on the phone with no luck. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - saved me so much frustration because the agent was able to confirm my documents were received even though the website never updated.

OMG thank you!! I'll check that out right now. I've been trying to call for days and just get disconnected every time.

Try clearing your cache and using a different browser. I had major issues with Chrome but Firefox worked perfectly for uploading my documents. Also make sure file names don't have any special characters, just letters and numbers.

This is really helpful - I was trying in Chrome and having some issues. I'll switch to Firefox and make sure my filenames are simple.

This happens quite often! To upload proof of 2019 employment, follow these exact steps:\n\n1. Log into your NY.gov ID account\n2. Select 'Unemployment Services'\n3. Click on 'View My Online Forms'\n4. Select 'Document Upload'\n5. Choose the document type 'Proof of Employment'\n6. Upload your files (W-2, 1099, pay stubs, etc.)\n\nThe system accepts PDFs up to 5MB. If your file is larger, there are free online tools to compress PDFs. I recommend uploading multiple forms of proof if possible - better safe than sorry with NYSDOL.

Thank you for these detailed steps! I followed them exactly and was able to upload my W-2 and three months of pay stubs. Quick question - will I get a confirmation email or message once they review them?

You should receive a message in your online inbox within 5-7 business days confirming receipt. The actual review can take 2-3 weeks. If you don't see a confirmation message after a week, I recommend calling them to verify.

I had this same problem in January! I ended up having to call the unemployment office which was a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. Was on hold for hours before getting disconnected, then tried again the next day with the same result. Eventually I just drove to the local DOL office and asked them in person. They told me I could fax the documents too, which was easier for me than dealing with their terrible website. Just make sure to include your claim ID number on every page if you go the fax route.

Ugh, I really don't want to deal with calling if I don't have to. What's the fax number you used? I might do that as a backup in case the website upload doesn't work.

The fax number I used was 518-457-9378. BUT this was a few months ago so double check on their website to make sure it's still current. And definitely write your claim ID and full name on EVERY page.

Just a heads up - make sure whatever documents you upload clearly show:\n\n1. Your name and SSN/Tax ID\n2. Employer name and contact information\n3. Dates of employment covering 2019\n4. Earnings information\n\nIf you're self-employed, you'll need tax returns plus client invoices or 1099 forms. The system is very particular about documentation being complete. I've seen many claims delayed because people uploaded partial documents or ones that didn't clearly show all required information.

This is really important info, thank you! I have my W-2 which shows everything except specific dates of employment. Would adding a letter from my employer with the specific dates help?

0 coins

Yes, definitely add the employer letter with specific dates! That combination of W-2 plus employer letter with dates is actually ideal and will prevent any potential delays in processing.

btw if ur going to upload stuff do it on a computer not phone, mobile site always crashes

Good tip! I was actually trying on my phone first and it was acting weird.

WAIT - double check that you're submitting to the right program! My friend got asked for 2019 proof for regular UI benefits but I got asked for it for some extended benefit program. The upload portals look identical but they go to different departments! Make sure the request specifically mentions what type of claim it's for.

Thanks for the warning! I checked and my request specifically says it's for my regular UI claim, so I think I'm good. But I'll make sure to use the exact link from the dashboard rather than trying to find it another way.

Update: I successfully uploaded my documents! For anyone else who runs into this problem, here's what worked for me:\n\n1. Used Firefox browser (Chrome kept freezing)\n2. Uploaded my W-2, three months of pay stubs, and a letter from my employer\n3. Made sure all filenames were simple with no special characters\n4. Made sure each file was under 5MB\n\nThanks everyone for your help! Now I just have to wait for them to review everything.

Awesome! Make sure you take screenshots of the confirmation page just in case. NY unemployment has a habit of

Great idea - just took screenshots of everything including the confirmation number. Better safe than sorry!
