Need help with NY unemployment documentation requirements - can't reach anyone!
The new documentation requirements for ny unemployment are driving me crazy! They're asking for proof of unemployment but their website explanation is so vague I have no idea what to submit. Been trying to call for the past week but impossible to get through to an actual person. I feel like I'm shooting in the dark here. What exactly are they looking for? I don't want to submit the wrong stuff and get denied or have my benefits delayed. Has anyone managed to get clear guidance on what documentation satisfies their requirements? I'm willing to contact anyone - city council, mayor's office, whoever - just need someone to explain what they actually want so I can submit it correctly the first time. This is so frustrating!

I had the exact same problem last month. The documentation requirements are so confusing and unhelpful. I ended up submitting my last 3 paystubs, termination letter, and w-2 from previous year. Still waiting to hear back if that was sufficient. The system is broken, man.

•Did you try calling them? I've been trying for days but keep getting disconnected after being on hold for an hour

•Calling is useless, waste of time. I tried like 20+ times and never got through.

•I submitted the same docs and got approved after about 11 days. Hang in there 👍

After struggling with trying to reach ny unemployment for weeks, I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected with a real person at unemployment. They basically wait on hold for you and then call you when they get a live agent. It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid quickly. They have a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Does this actually work? I've been trying to get through for almost two weeks...

•Yeah it worked for me! The rep explained exactly what docs I needed and now my claim is processing. They said bank statements showing my income drop + termination notice was enough.

•I get the skepticism but I was desperate. Been trying for 3 weeks to reach someone. Used the service and got a callback in about 2 hours. The agent explained I just needed to provide payroll records and my termination notice.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS?

•It worked for me! I was about to give up completely when I tried it. Talked to an actual person who helped me figure out the documentation. They told me specifically what to upload.

For documentation they usually want: proof of employment (paystubs or w2s), termination notice if you have it, and something showing your earnings from the base period they're looking at. It sounds like you have questions specific to your situation though so you definitely need to talk to someone directly.

The whole system is designed to make you give up. Thats how they save money. They make the process so frustrating and impossible that people just walk away. Its criminal how theyre treating people who just want what there owed.

•THIS!!! 💯 They know exactly what they're doing. I've seen so many friends just give up because the process is so insane.

•yep its literally by design. make it so complicated nobody can actually get benefits

Here's what worked for me with the documentation requirements: First, understand that NYSDOL is looking for proof that you were employed and then lost that employment through no fault of your own. They also need to verify your earnings to calculate benefit amounts. Documents you should submit: - Last 4-5 pay stubs before separation - Termination/layoff letter (VERY important) - W-2 from previous year - If self-employed: 1099s, tax returns, invoice history - Bank statements showing regular income deposits that stopped If you're getting nowhere on the phone, I highly recommend using Claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold and connect you directly with an agent. I wasted weeks trying to call before using them, and talking to an actual agent cleared everything up in minutes. Alternatively, contact your state representative's office. They often have direct lines to unemployment office liaisons who can help. Don't give up! The system is frustrating by design, but persistence pays off.

•This is so helpful! Thank you! Did you have any issues with your documentation when you submitted it?

•My first submission got rejected because I didn't include the termination letter - just had paystubs. Once I talked to an agent and resubmitted with the right docs, it was approved in about 9 days.

Try contacting your state assembly person! They have staff who deal with unemployment issues. I was getting nowhere for MONTHS and then my assembly person's office made one call and suddenly everything was fixed in 48 hours.

•This actually works 👆 My state senator's office got my claim unstuck after 6 weeks of nothing.

•How do I find out who my assembly person is? And what info do I need to give them?

•Go to nyassembly.gov and enter your address to find your rep. Tell them your claim number, when you filed, and what issues you're having. They usually have a staff person dedicated to unemployment cases.

I tried for 3 weeks to reach someone on the phone. Ended up using claimyr.com and got a call back with an actual agent in about 40 minutes. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast. They walked me through exactly what documents to submit for my specific situation.

•This one actually connects you with the real NY unemployment office - they just handle the hold time for you. The person I talked to was definitely a real NYSDOL employee who had access to my claim info and everything.

i remember when I had this issue last year. ended up sending them way more docs than they probably needed just to be safe - tax returns, pay stubs, termination email, screenshots of my last day at work, even my employee badge lol. got approved but took forever

Pro tip: if ur using the unemployment website to upload docs, take screenshots of EVERYTHING. the confirmation screens, the upload process, even the docs themselves. the system is known to "lose" uploads and then claim you never submitted anything 🤡

•Omg this is good advice. I hadn't even thought about that. Will definitely do this!
