Need to directly contact Governor about my ny unemployment disaster - any direct lines?

Been dealing with a complete nightmare for my unemployment claim since April. I've called the regular NY unemployment line over 200 times in the past 3 weeks and either get disconnected immediately or wait on hold for 4+ hours only to have the call drop. My claim has been pending for 78 days now with ZERO income. I've emailed every address on their website, contacted my local assemblyman twice (they just sent a generic form letter back), and I'm desperate to escalate this to someone who can actually help. I've heard some people managed to get results by contacting the Governor's office directly. Does anyone have a working phone number or email address for someone in the Governor's office who handles unemployment disasters? I'm about to be evicted and my car was already repossessed last week. I need to speak to someone with actual authority to fix this mess.

I know the frustration. Try reaching out to your state rep AND senator at the same time. I was in the hole for 92 days and did this - had movement within 48 hours. don't just call once, call EVERY DAY and be annoyingly persistent.

Thanks, I'll try hitting up my senator too. Did you have a specific person you talked to or just whoever answered?

Just whoever answered the phone but I made sure to get their name and follow up with them directly. Be super nice but make it clear ur desperate.

This actually works, can confirm. State reps have special contacts at unemployment that regular ppl don't have access to.

I was in the exact same boat last month, tried calling for weeks with no luck. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it was amazing - they call NY unemployment for you, stay on hold, then connect you when an actual human picks up. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked within days after months of nothing. Check out this video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch! I was skeptical too but seriously it saved me. They just do the calling/waiting part for you so you don't waste hours on hold.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? the unemployment system is sooo broken I don't trust anything anymore

It worked for me! All they do is call and wait on hold so you don't have to. When an agent answers, they connect you. I got my backpay of $6,400 released after talking to the agent.

So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when I saw someone mention this Claimyr thing on another thread. It actually worked and now I have ACTUAL MONEY in my account. Just sayin...

The governor's general office number is 518-474-8390 but good luck getting through to anyone who can help. I tried for weeks and got nowhere. Your best bet is going through your local representatives or finding some way to get a human on the phone at NYSDOL directly.

OK so I've been through this whole mess and here's what ACTUALLY works to get your NY unemployment fixed when everything is broken: First, document EVERYTHING. Dates, times, who you talked to, confirmation numbers. Second, contact your state assembly person AND senator simultaneously. Don't just email - call them directly. They have special contacts at the unemployment office. Third, if you still can't get through, use Claimyr.com - it's a service that calls unemployment for you and connects you when a human answers. Talking to a real person is the ONLY way to fix complicated issues. Fourth, file a complaint with the Department of Labor's Office of Inspector General. Fifth, if all else fails, contact local news stations - they love these stories and unemployment offices hate bad publicity. This system is criminally broken but these steps worked for me. Don't give up! Good luck!

Thank you for this detailed response! I just contacted my senator this morning and I'm going to try that Claimyr thing too. Did you have to provide any specific info to make the rep take action?

Keep it simple but URGENT - explain you're facing eviction, can't buy food, etc (if true). Give them your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and when you first filed. That's usually enough for them to look you up.

I don't have the Governor's # but have you tried Twitter? I tweeted at the NYSDOL and the Governor with my situation (kept it professional but mentioned the hardship) and surprisingly got a DM asking for my info. Had movement on my claim within a week.

That's a good idea! I don't have Twitter but might create an account just for this. Did you use any specific hashtags?

Yeah use #NYunemployment and #NYSDOL and tag the governor and DOL accounts. Be persistent but polite.

The governors office wont help you. I tried that route and wasted 3 weeks. What worked for me was getting through to an actual agent at unemployment. Try calling right when they open at 8am or use a service like claimyr.com to get you through to someone.

nyassembly.gov/mem/ - put in your address and it tells you. Email AND call them!

This might sound weird but I got results by sending a physical letter to both my state senator and the DOL commissioner. Old school but it worked when nothing else did. Include your claim # and contact info.

The governor's office literally just directs you back to the normal unemployment channels 😤 Complete waste of time. You need to either get your state rep involved or somehow get through to a tier 2 agent on the phone who can actually help.

💯 THIS!!! Tier 2 agents are the only ones who can fix anything. Regular agents just read from scripts.

Went through this hell back in February. Couldn't get anyone on the phone for MONTHS. Finally used Claimyr to get through (claimyr.com) and had my issue fixed in one call. The unemployment system is designed to make you give up - don't.

Is that service expensive? Im literally down to my last few dollars

It was worth every penny for me. I was owed over $7000 in backpay that I got within a week after talking to someone. Best investment I made during this whole nightmare.

I doubt the governor's personal involvement would help. The unemployment system is broken by design. It's meant to be frustrating so people give up. Contacting your state representatives sometimes works but honestly getting through to an actual agent is your best bet.

The ny unemployment system is LITERALLY the worst in the country. I eventually had to show up IN PERSON at my state senator's office and refuse to leave until they helped me. Took 3 visits but they finally assigned someone to my case.

Wait you can just show up at their office? I might try this tomorrow!

Yep! Bring all your documentation and be polite but FIRM. Say you're not leaving until someone helps you. Worked for me!
