Need help with ID.me verification to unlock my NY unemployment account after identity theft
I finally got verified through ID.me after someone stole my identity, but I'm totally lost on what to do next. The ID.me customer service rep told me I need to log into my unemployment account and 'give DOL the consent' saying I was verified, but I can't figure out where to do this! I haven't received any benefits since March 2025 (almost 3 months now!) because of this identity theft situation. Can someone walk me through exactly where in the NY unemployment portal I need to go to complete this consent step? I'm desperate - bills are piling up and I don't know what else to do 😫

same thing happened 2 me last month!! u need 2 go to the messages section in ur account and there should be a notification asking for verification. click that and it takes u to a page where u give consent. if u dont see the message try clearing cache or using different browser. good luck

•Thanks for responding! I've looked in the messages section but don't see anything about verification or consent. Just checked on both Chrome and Safari. Should I call DOL directly? This is so frustrating!

I went through this exact process in February. After completing ID.me verification, you need to look for the "Identity Verification" section under your claim summary page. Here's what to do step by step: 1. Log into your NY.gov account 2. Navigate to your Unemployment Services dashboard 3. Look for "Claim Summary" or "Claim Status" tab 4. There should be a yellow or red alert box near the top indicating action needed 5. Click on that alert and it will take you to the consent page 6. Check the box confirming ID.me verification and submit If you don't see the alert, your account might need manual review. Sometimes the system doesn't automatically detect that you've completed ID.me verification.

•Thank you for these detailed steps! I'll try this right now. I didn't notice any alert box before but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. Fingers crossed this works 🤞

What if there's no alert box??? I've been dealing with identity theft too and completed ID.me verification LAST MONTH but still can't get my benefits! Called DOL 57 times today and couldn't get through to anyone!!! This is RIDICULOUS! They expect us to just survive with NO MONEY while they take their sweet time??? I've emailed them 3 times with no response. What are we supposed to do???

•After going through this nightmare myself, I finally got through to an agent by using Claimyr. It's a service that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me from making 100+ calls. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent I spoke with manually linked my ID.me verification to my account since the automatic system wasn't working. Had my payments within 48 hours after that call.

My cousin had this same issue last week. Actually her problem wasn't identity theft but they still made her verify through ID.me. She said after the verification she got an email from DOL with a link to confirm. Did you check your email? Maybe it went to spam?

•I've been checking my email constantly including spam and junk folders. Nothing from DOL yet. Do you know how long it took your cousin to get the email after completing the ID.me verification?

I work in IT and have helped several family members with NY unemployment issues recently. There's actually a technical glitch with the ID.me verification consent page that's been happening since the June system update. What you need to do is: 1. Clear ALL browsing data (cookies, cache, everything) from your browser 2. Restart your computer completely (not just refresh) 3. Log in using Chrome specifically (the site has compatibility issues with Safari and Firefox right now) 4. When you get to your dashboard, press CTRL+F and search for "identity" to find the verification section (it's sometimes visually hidden but still clickable) 5. If that doesn't work, try accessing through incognito/private browsing mode If none of that works, your account is likely flagged for manual review, which unfortunately means getting through to a representative.

•Thank you for these tech tips! I'll try all of this tonight. I didn't realize there was a system update recently that might be causing issues. Really appreciate the detailed help.

•How do you file a complaint with the governor's office? I'm going to try all the technical solutions first but good to have this as a backup plan if nothing works.

I had almost the exact same situation happen to me. After getting verified through ID.me, I couldn't find any consent page anywhere on the DOL website. I tried for two weeks with no luck. Every day my anxiety got worse thinking about all the bills piling up. Finally I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They basically hold your place in line and call you when they connect with a DOL agent. You can see how it works in their demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent I spoke with told me that sometimes the ID.me verification doesn't properly link to your DOL account, especially in identity theft cases. They had to manually confirm my verification and release my payments. Got all my backpay within 3 days after that call.

•That sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing! I'm going to try the technical fixes first, but if those don't work I'll definitely check out that service. Did they actually get you through to a real person? I've been trying for weeks with no luck.

•I will definitely update! Going to try the tech solutions tonight and if those don't work, I'll try getting through to an agent tomorrow. This whole process is so stressful.

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! For anyone having the same issue, here's what worked for me: 1. I tried all the tech solutions but still couldn't find any consent page 2. Used Claimyr to connect with an agent (took about 45 minutes instead of calling all day) 3. The agent confirmed what others said - the ID.me verification wasn't properly linked to my account because of the identity theft flag 4. They manually verified my ID.me status and released all my payments 5. Money was in my account this morning including all backpay! Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions! Such a relief to finally have this fixed after months of stress.

•That's great news! Thanks for updating us. It's good to know that manual verification was needed in your case - that's becoming more common with identity theft situations. Glad you got all your backpay too!
