NYS DOL email: August 8 benefits delayed due to "system event" - payment promised within 48 hours, anyone else affected?
Just received an email from NYS Department of Labor today saying there was some kind of system problem that caused a delay in payments for the week ending August 8 for some claimants. The email states: "An unforeseen system event has caused a specific delay in benefits for the week ending August 8 for some claimants. This particular issue on your claim is being resolved. If you certified earlier this week for last week's benefits and you were otherwise eligible, those benefits will be released within 48 business hours from today." They're saying the benefits will be released within 48 business hours from today, but I'm getting nervous because I really need that money for rent. The email mentioned if I don't see benefits released on my online account on Monday, August 16, to call the Telephone Claims Center at 888-209-8124 and an agent will assist me. The email also stated: "If you are still unemployed and seeking benefits for this week, you can and should certify beginning Sunday, August 15. These benefits should not be delayed." Has anyone else gotten this message or experiencing delayed payments? This is the first time I've had an issue since I started collecting in July. The email mentioned an "unforeseen system event" whatever that means... anyone know what's going on? The header of the email shows "WE ARE YOUR DOL" and it's signed "NEW YORK STATE" at the bottom.

Yep, got the same email yesterday. Super frustrating cause I was counting on that money for groceries and bills. My payment always comes on wednesday and now its friday and still nothing. DOL always has some kind of "system issue" 🙄

•Did you try calling them? I'm wondering if I should wait or just try to get through now.

I had this exact problem but I actually found a service that helped me get through to a live agent! It's called Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was skeptical at first but it worked - they called DOL and when they got a real person they connected me. Best money I ever spent considering I got my delayed payment fixed in one call! They've got a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Yeah it's totally real! I was desperate after trying to call for 3 days straight. They basically just wait on hold for you and then call you when they get through to an agent. Saved me hours of hearing that stupid hold music lol

•i dunno man, sounds like one of those things that's too good to be true. how's it even work?

•It's pretty simple - you pay them, they start calling DOL for you and stay on hold. When they get a real person, they call your phone and connect you. My payment was released like 2 hours after I talked to the agent. After 2 weeks of nothing!

•I get the skepticism, I really do. I was in the same boat until I was 3 weeks behind on rent. Try it or don't, just sharing what worked for me when I was desperate.

I'm in the same boat. The system crashed last week apparently and messed up tons of payments. My friend who works in IT says it might be related to all the changes they're making to the unemployment system. Hoping it gets fixed by Monday cause my landlord is already on my case 😫

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!! Fourth time this year they've had a "system issue" that delayed payments. Meanwhile we're all supposed to just wait while our bills pile up?? The unemployment system in this state is a JOKE.

Here's what I know about this specific issue (I have a friend who works at DOL): There was a major database update on Tuesday night that corrupted some payment processing data. It affected about 30% of claimants, mostly people who filed after July. They're working on a fix but internal systems are a mess right now. What you should do: 1) Check your payment history daily on the website - sometimes the money appears without notification 2) If you don't see it by Monday, definitely call right when they open (8am) 3) If you can't get through by phone (which is likely), there are a few options: - Message them through the secure message center on the portal - Contact your state representative (seriously, this works) - Use a service like Claimyr (claimyr.com) that can get you through to an agent 4) When you do reach someone, ask them to place a special "payment release request" - this is an internal term that flags your account for immediate review The good news is that everyone WILL get their money, it's just a matter of when. DOL has confirmed this isn't affecting eligibility, just payment processing timing.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll definitely check my payment history throughout the weekend and follow your advice if nothing changes by Monday.

•thanks for this detailed info! just wondering, is the payment release request something they'll know about or do i need to mention it specifically?

•They'll know what it is but you should definitely ask for it specifically. It puts your account in a different queue for faster processing.

I got this email 2 weeks ago and STILL haven't been paid. Called over 20 times. The 48 hours thing is complete BS. Get ready to wait waaaaay longer 🤬

Pro tip: if you call them, press 1, then 3, then wait for the prompt about existing claims and press 2, then 4. It bypasses some of the automated menu and gets you in the queue faster. I still waited an hour but at least got through.

Check your bank accounts ppl! Just got my payment about an hour ago even though the website still shows pending. No notification or anything, it just appeared.

So y'all know this is probably related to that big fraud problem they've been having right? My cousin works there and said they found a bunch of fake claims that were stealing money and now they're triple checking every payment which is slowing everything down.

•That makes sense actually. I'd rather they take a few extra days than have someone steal my benefits. Still sucks though.

•yeah but why not TELL US that instead of this vague "system issue" nonsense? we deserve to know what's happening.

•Cause they don't want to admit they got hacked lol. Bad publicity.

Reminder that you can contact your state assembly person about this! They have special contacts at DOL and can often get things fixed faster than you can on your own. Google "NY state assembly [your neighborhood]" to find yours.

After dealing with this mess for days, I just want to say that you might wanna check out claimyr.com if you're tired of the hold times. I found it on reddit last month when I had a different issue. Talking to an actual human at DOL got my payment processed right away, worth every penny.

•Yeah it does! They call for you and when they get a real person they call you to connect. Saved me hours of frustration.
