NYDOL Unemployment Claim Stuck in Pending Status for a Month After Being Fired - Need Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot and could use some advice. I got fired from my job about a month ago because they said I 'didn't fit with the company.' I filed for unemployment right after, but my claim has been stuck in pending status ever since. I'm running out of money and getting really worried. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to speed up the process or get in touch with someone who can help? I thought being fired meant I'd be eligible for benefits, but now I'm not so sure.

Ugh, that sucks. I've been there. The system is so broken rn. Have you tried calling them? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

•I've tried calling but can never get through. It's always busy or I'm on hold forever 😫

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through faster that way.

•Calling is useless. I spent 3 hours on hold last week and got disconnected. The whole system is a joke 🤡

Being fired doesn't automatically disqualify you from benefits. It depends on the reason. If it wasn't for misconduct, you should still be eligible. Did your employer give you any documentation about why you were let go?

•They just said I 'didn't fit with the company culture.' No real explanation beyond that. Should I ask them for something in writing?

•Definitely get it in writing if you can. That'll help your case. 'Not fitting in' is pretty vague and shouldn't disqualify you from benefits.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth the $20 imo

•I've used it twice now. Worked both times. Beats sitting on hold all day 🙌

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Write down dates, times, and details of all your interactions with the unemployment office. 2. Check your online account daily. Sometimes they need additional info but don't tell you. 3. If you can't get through on the phone, try emailing. Be persistent but polite. 4. Contact your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things through. 5. Make sure you're certifying weekly, even if your claim is pending. 6. If you have any documentation from your employer about the termination, submit that. 7. Be prepared to appeal if they deny you. Many initial denials get overturned. Hang in there. The system is overwhelmed but keep pushing. You'll get through eventually!

•This is gold. Wish I had known all this when I was dealing with my claim last year.

OP, what state are you in? The process can vary a lot depending on where you are.

•I'm in New York. Should've mentioned that, my bad!

•NY is tough rn. They're super backed up. Def try that calling service someone mentioned if you can afford it. Otherwise, email blitz every address you can find.

unpopular opinion: maybe use this time to look for a new job instead of waiting for unemployment? I know it sucks but sometimes you gotta take what you can get

•Bruh, why not both? Apply for jobs AND chase that unemployment $$$. You earned those benefits!

Hot take: the system is designed to be frustrating so people give up. Don't let them win! Keep pushing!
