NY unemployment payment delay for September 27, 2025 holiday?
Does anyone know if tomorrow (Sep 27, 2025) is considered a holiday for NY unemployment? Will there be any delay in my payment? I'm expecting my weekly benefits to hit my account tomorrow but wasn't sure if there's some holiday I'm not aware of that might push it to Tuesday or Wednesday. Really need the money this week for rent.

•Thanks! That's a relief. My landlord is already giving me grief about being late last month.

To clarify, September 27, 2025 is a Saturday, and NY unemployment benefits typically don't process deposits on weekends. If you're expecting a deposit tomorrow, you should check if your payment is actually scheduled for Monday, September 29th. The next federal holiday that would affect NY unemployment payments is Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 13, 2025.

•Oh shoot you're right, I meant Sep 26 actually (got my dates mixed up). So Friday isn't a holiday then? My payment should come through?

•Correct, September 26, 2025 is not a holiday, so if your payment is scheduled for Friday, it should process normally. You can always check your payment status in your NY.gov account under the 'Payment History' section to confirm when it's scheduled to be released.

I ran into a similar issue last month and got super worried when my payment didn't show up on the usual day. Sometimes the NYSDOL system just glitches a bit and payments get delayed by a day or two even when there's no holiday. Just fyi so you don't panic if it happens!

•That's good to know. I'll try not to freak out if it's not there right away. Did yours eventually come through without you having to do anything?

•Yeah, it showed up two days later. Never got an explanation but at least it came through!

I've noticed that sometimes banks hold the deposits even when NYSDOL releases them on time. My credit union sometimes takes an extra day to post the funds compared to when my husband gets his at Chase. So it might not even be NY unemployment's fault if there's a small delay.

•THIS!!!! The nysdol can say they sent it but then the banks play games with OUR MONEY!!! I switched to direct deposit to my chime account and now get it a day EARLIER than I did with my credit union!!!!

If you're having trouble reaching a NYSDOL representative to confirm your payment status, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation where I wasn't sure if my payment was delayed due to a holiday or if there was an issue with my claim. Used their service to get through to a live agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•I've never heard of this service before. Has anyone else used it? I might need it if my payment doesn't show up tomorrow.

•I used it last month when my benefits suddenly stopped without explanation. Got through to someone who fixed the issue in one call. Before that I spent 2 weeks calling hundreds of times with no luck. Definitely worth it if you're stressed about payments.

•I certified Sunday morning like I always do. Been doing it at the same time for weeks now and payment usually hits Friday.

Just to provide complete information: For NY unemployment in 2025, these are the remaining holidays that would affect payment processing: - Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day (October 13) - Veterans Day (November 11) - Thanksgiving (November 27) - Christmas (December 25) - New Year's Day (January 1, 2026) It's always good to plan ahead if you know your payment would normally fall on one of these dates.

I had a heart attack last month when my payment didn't come through on Friday. Turned out there was a "processing delay" according to the rep I finally reached on Tuesday. No explanation, no warning, nothing! The system is so frustrating sometimes. I feel your anxiety about this - living payment to payment is stressful enough without wondering if the money will actually arrive when promised.

•This happens way too often with NYSDOL. I wish they would at least send a text alert when payments are delayed instead of leaving everyone hanging and panicking.

Update: My payment came through this morning! Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance. I was stressing for nothing.
