NY unemployment login keeps saying password incorrect after I just logged in successfully

So frustrated right now! I was just on my NY unemployment account like 20 minutes ago checking my payment status. I logged out to double-check some info from my email, and when I tried to sign back in, the system keeps telling me my password is incorrect. I've tried typing it SUPER carefully, even copy/pasting it from my password manager, but nothing works. I haven't changed anything! Anyone else having login problems today? Is the system glitching or something? I need to certify by tomorrow!

Thanks for responding. I'll try waiting a bit. So annoying that they can't fix these issues! Did you ever have to reset your password because of this?

Will try that right now, thank you!

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday afternoon! I was in the middle of my weekly certification and got logged out randomly. Then it kept saying wrong password. I tried at least 15 times with the EXACT same password I always use. So annoying!!!

Did you eventually get back in? I'm starting to panic because I have to certify by tomorrow...

This is a known issue with the NY unemployment portal. A few troubleshooting steps that usually work: 1. Clear your browser cache and cookies completely 2. Try using a different browser altogether 3. If you're on mobile, switch to desktop or vice versa 4. Wait 30 minutes and try again (the system sometimes has timeout issues that resolve themselves) 5. Make sure you're going through the official NY.gov login portal If none of these work, you may need to use the 'Forgot Password' option, but try the above steps first as most people get back in without resetting.

Thank you for these detailed steps! I tried clearing my cache and that didn't work, but switching from Chrome to Firefox actually got me in! Weird system issue but at least I'm back in now.

I was having the SAME ISSUE for days last week!!! The unemployment website is complete GARBAGE. I tried calling the support line and waited for 2 hours before getting disconnected. TWICE!!! How are we supposed to get our benefits when we can't even log in?? This system is designed to make us give up, I swear.

The system really is terrible. Were you eventually able to get in? Did you have to reset your password?

If you keep having login issues and need to speak with an actual NYSDOL representative about this (especially if you're approaching certification deadlines), I'd recommend using Claimyr. It helped me bypass the phone wait times completely. Their service connects you directly to an unemployment agent without the hours of waiting. I was skeptical at first but tried their demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE and then used the service at claimyr.com. Got through to someone who fixed my account access issues in about 10 minutes.

Thank you - I managed to get in by switching browsers, but I'll keep this in mind if I have more serious issues in the future. The phone system is absolutely brutal.

Does this actually work? I've been trying to reach someone for DAYS about my claim being frozen!!

Good point! I double-checked and I'm definitely on the official site. Still strange that it wouldn't accept my password when I just used it.

Just wondering - are you using any special characters in your password? My account keeps rejecting passwords with certain symbols even though their own system let me create it with those symbols in the first place. Makes zero sense.

Yes! I do have a couple of special characters. That might be part of the problem. Their system is so inconsistent.

Just as a follow-up since several people mentioned this issue - the NYSDOL announced they're doing system maintenance every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7pm-10pm through the end of April 2025. If you're trying to log in during those times, you might encounter these password errors or other strange behavior. They don't publicize this well, but it's on their system status page.

That's super helpful information! Today is Thursday so that might explain it. I wish they would put a clear message about maintenance on the login page instead of just giving error messages.

Of COURSE they don't publicize it well. They probably WANT us to get frustrated and give up claiming our benefits. SMH.

This is such a common problem with the NY system! I had the exact same issue last month - logged in fine, then got locked out with "incorrect password" errors even though nothing changed. What finally worked for me was using an incognito/private browser window. Something about their session management gets confused when you log out and back in quickly. Also, if you're still having trouble, try logging in during off-peak hours (like early morning or late evening) - the system seems more stable then. Hope you got your certification done on time!

Thanks for the incognito window tip! I actually managed to get back in by switching from Chrome to Firefox, but I'll definitely remember the private browsing trick for next time. You're right about the session management - it's like their system can't handle normal logout/login behavior. Luckily I did get my certification submitted just in time! The timing stress on top of technical issues is the worst part.

Ugh, I've been dealing with this exact same issue for weeks now! The NY unemployment system is seriously broken. What's worked for me is actually logging in through a completely different device - like if you've been using your phone, try a computer instead, or vice versa. Also, I noticed that sometimes the system gets "stuck" on your old session info, so waiting at least 2-3 hours before trying again helps. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through these hoops just to access our own accounts! I've started keeping a backup browser ready just for unemployment stuff because this happens so frequently.
