NY unemployment claim completely disappeared from system after months of waiting

After Labor Day weekend my payments stopped processing. I kept trying to reach someone about it for weeks. Finally last Monday an agent called me back and said I didn't need to file a new claim unless I'd worked and earned 10x more than my previous employment. They promised to release all my payments from August through October 10th. I checked my account on Tuesday and my ENTIRE CLAIM WAS COMPLETELY GONE from the system! Called again and the rep said they couldn't even see my claim in their system! They made me answer all the weekly certification questions from August to October again and said payments would process 'next week' and to 'keep checking in'. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm at my breaking point after waiting months only to have everything deleted and starting over from square one.

The same thing happend to me! My claim disapeared right after I talked to someone who said they'd fix everything. it took me ANOTHER 3 weeks of calling to get it resolved. The unemployment system is so broken right now... good luck

3 weeks?? Omg I cant wait another 3 weeks. Did you have to do anything special to get it fixed or just keep calling?

0 coins

honestly just had to be persistent. I called like 20+ times and finally got someone who knew what they were doing. the first 6-7 people I talked to were useless 🤦‍♀️

This is why I stopped bothering to call. Half the time they give wrong info anyway

I was stuck in this nightmare loop for weeks until I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). Totally changed everything for me - I didn't have to spend my whole day dialing and redialing. I got a callback with an actual agent who fixed my vanishing claim issue right away. It was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid quickly. They even have a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds sketchy tbh. how does that even work? 🤔

Ev Luca

Not sketchy at all! They basically call for you and stay on hold, then call your phone when they get a real person. Saved me HOURS of hold time and frustration.

another day another company promising to solve all ur problems. does this actually work or just another scam?

It actually worked for me. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after 3 weeks of calling. Got through to an agent who fixed everything in one call.

not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these services never work for me

I get the skepticism but this isn't a hack - it's just a service that calls and waits on hold for you. Nothing magic about it, just saves you hours of frustration.

The system is GARBAGE right now. My claim disappeared twice in the last 3 months. Each time they made me answer all the certification questions again. What worked for me was asking to speak to a tier 2 specialist - regular agents couldn't see what happened.

I've been dealing with the NY unemployment system for too long and this is a known glitch in their system. When they try to 'fix' something, sometimes the whole claim gets archived instead. You need to specifically ask for a 'claim restoration specialist' when you call - not all agents have access to restore vanished claims.

0 coins

Thank you! I'll ask specifically for a claim restoration specialist next time. Nobody mentioned that to me.

No problem! Also make sure you have your original claim ID number written down somewhere if possible - makes it way easier for them to find the archived claim.

omg this LITERALLY happened to me last month! I was so mad I drove to the actual unemployment office (don't do this, waste of time, they just tell you to call). what ended up working was calling exactly at 7:59am when they first open. finally got someone who could actually help after 2 weeks of trying.

The 7:59 trick works! I've used it several times. Somehow you bypass the hold system that way.

I work in IT (not for unemployment) but I can tell you their systems are ancient and run on old mainframes. What probably happened is your claim got archived or moved to a different database during maintenance. They can recover it but most agents don't know how or don't have access. Keep calling until you get someone experienced.

This makes so much sense! The lady I talked to yesterday seemed completely confused like she'd never seen this happen before.

0 coins

Exactly - the frontline staff often don't have visibility into the technical issues. Their training is minimal and turnover is high. Ask for a supervisor or someone who's been there longer than 6 months.

Happened to me too! Try contacting your state representative!! I emailed mine and they got unemployment to call me within 48 hours and fixed everything. Seriously, this was after weeks of getting nowhere on my own.

Listen, I've been through this exact scenario and here's what you NEED to do: 1. Document everything! Take screenshots of any communications, write down the names of every rep you talk to and what they tell you. 2. When calling, immediately ask for a supervisor or claims specialist - the regular agents often can't see archived claims. 3. Be persistent but polite - I know you're frustrated (I was too!) but the people who remain calm actually get help faster. 4. If calling fails after 3-4 attempts, try Claimyr.com - it's a service that calls for you and connects you when they get a human. Saved me days of frustration. 5. As a backup plan, contact your state assembly person or senator. They have special contacts at unemployment and can escalate cases. 6. Check if your identity verification got flagged - sometimes claims disappear because of ID issues. Don't give up! The system is designed to be frustrating but you CAN get your money.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'm definitely going to try these steps. I never thought about contacting my state rep.

The state rep trick is legit. My brother got his claim fixed in 3 days after 2 months of trying on his own.

welcome to the wonderful world of ny unemployment where your claim can just *poof* disappear 🤡 I swear they do this on purpose to get people to give up

0 coins

100% they do it on purpose. My friend works there (low level) and says the system automatically archives claims with certain issues to 'reduce workload'

0 coins

It's not a conspiracy, it's just incompetence. Their computer system is from like 1992.

I had this EXACT issue! Got it resolved by using claimyr.com to get an agent on the phone who could actually see my archived claim and restore it. Took one 20-minute call after weeks of frustration. Best decision I ever made.

0 coins

unpopular opinion but sometimes its faster to just file a whole new claim rather than trying to get the old one restored. I gave up after 3 weeks of calling and just filed new, got payments in 10 days. 🤷‍♂️

0 coins

this is terrible advice. filing a new claim when you have an existing one can flag your account for fraud investigation.

0 coins

worked for me 🤷‍♂️ but maybe I just got lucky

FYI - there's a known system issue with ny unemployment where claims 'disappear' after certain updates. It's happened to thousands of people. You need to speak to a tier 2 specialist who can see archived claims. Regular agents literally can't see them in their system.

0 coins

i hope you kept all your claim info written down somewhere! claim number, exact dates, etc. you'll need that to help them find your old claim in the system.

0 coins

I have my claim number and some screenshots thankfully! But they're still saying they can't find anything in the system 😫

0 coins

Did you try contacting them through Twitter? Sounds weird but their social media team sometimes responds faster than phone support. DM them your issue (no personal info) and they might escalate it.

0 coins

Been there. Waited 2 months just to have my claim vanish. I ended up using claimyr.com to get a rep on the phone and then I had to be SUPER specific about what happened. Use these exact words: 'My claim was archived during system maintenance and needs to be restored from the archive database.' They'll know exactly what to do if you say it that way.

Thank you for the exact wording! I'll try this tomorrow morning when I call.
