NY unemployment benefits sent to Key2Benefits card but money missing - help needed
So my Chime account got suspended last month (they didn't even tell me why!) and I got a notice from DOL saying my unemployment benefits were sent back. Last week I received a letter in the mail saying they would send me a Key2Benefits card with all my funds on it. The card arrived yesterday but when I activated it and checked the balance - NOTHING! Zero dollars! Has anyone dealt with this before? How long does it typically take for the money to show up on the Key2Benefits card after they say they're sending it? I'm really stressing because I've got rent due in 3 days and was counting on this money.

When did you receive the Key2Benefits card? In my experience, it usually takes 2-3 business days for the funds to appear on the card after activation. Did you call the customer service number on the back of the card to check if the transfer is pending?

•I just got the card yesterday and activated it right away. I'll give it another day or two and see what happens. I did call the number on the back but got stuck in an automated system for 20 minutes before giving up.

•A week?! Ugh, I can't wait that long. Did calling them help speed things up at all?

There are a few things going on here that might explain the delay: 1. When funds are returned from a bank like Chime, DOL has to process the return and then authorize the reissuance through Key2Benefits 2. Even after the Key2Benefits card is mailed, the funds transfer isn't automatic - it's a separate process 3. The transfer typically takes 3-5 business days after card activation, but can take up to 7-10 business days in some cases I'd recommend calling NYSDOL directly to confirm they've initiated the funds transfer. Sometimes the letter goes out when they approve the card issuance, not when they actually send the money.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! That makes more sense. I'll try calling NYSDOL tomorrow morning.

The EXACT same thing happened to me in January when my Capital One account got frozen!!! I was FREAKING OUT because I had bills due and couldn't access my benefits! I kept calling DOL but could never get through to a real human being. I tried for THREE DAYS hitting the phone lines constantly. So frustrating!!! 😡

•It's so ridiculous! How did you finally resolve it? Did you just have to wait?

I ended up using this service called Claimyr to get through to a NY unemployment agent. It was actually a lifesaver because they got me connected with an actual human in about 40 minutes instead of me calling for days. The agent was able to confirm the transfer was pending and gave me an actual date when the money would hit my card. Check out their video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - their website is claimyr.com. Saved me so much stress!

I had this issue in 2025 when my benefits were returned from my old bank account. Here's what I learned: - The Key2Benefits card arrives BEFORE the funds are transferred - You need to activate the card first (which you've done) - Funds typically appear 3-7 business days after activation - If nothing shows up after 7 business days, there might be another issue One thing to check: did you set up the PIN correctly during activation? If not, the funds might be there but you can't access them.

•Yes, I set up the PIN during activation and it gave me a confirmation. I'll wait the 3-7 days and hope something shows up. This is so stressful!

•This is actually a normal process - the card issuance and fund transfer are two separate steps in their system. It's not that they forgot, it's just how their process works. The funds should appear within a few business days.

my friend had this same issue, try logging into the key2benefits website and check pending deposits. sometimes u can see it coming before it actually hits the card

Quick update question - has the money shown up yet? It's been a few days since your original post.

•Yes! The money finally appeared this morning! Took exactly 4 business days after I activated the card. Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your help and advice.
