NY unemployment back pay released to Chime account - when will it arrive?
Hi everyone, I just checked my NY unemployment account and it shows my back payments were released on Feb 22nd, 2025. I use Chime as my bank and I'm wondering how long it will take for the money to actually hit my account? Anyone with Chime know the typical timeline? Getting anxious since I've been waiting on these back payments for weeks!

•Thanks! It's already been about 8 hours since I saw the 'released' status. Hoping it comes through by tonight then!

In my experience, Chime typically processes NY unemployment deposits within 24 hours of the release date. However, if the release happened after 3pm, it might roll over to the next business day. The NYSDOL system shows the status as 'released' when they've initiated the transfer, but it still has to go through the ACH system before hitting your account. I'd expect to see it by tomorrow morning at the latest unless there's a holiday or weekend involved.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! That makes sense. The status changed around noon today, so hopefully that means it'll arrive soon. I've been stressing since I need to pay rent!

I got my NY unemployment backpay to my Chime last month and it took about 12 hours after the release. But my friend waited almost 3 days even though she also has Chime! I think it depends on how busy the system is that day.

•This is accurate. The ACH processing times can vary based on volume in the system. Also, the first deposit to any account typically takes longer than subsequent deposits due to verification processes. If this is your first payment to Chime, it might take the full 24-48 hours. After that, future payments should be faster.

I've been trying to reach NYSDOL for THREE WEEKS about my backpay and can't get through!!! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN!! Even when it says 'released' doesn't mean you'll actually get it. Mine said released twice and then changed back to pending and I had to start the whole process over again. This is ridiculous!!!!

•If you're having trouble reaching a NY unemployment agent, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in the same situation last month with backpay issues, and they got me connected to an agent in under 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - basically they hold your place in line and call you back when an agent is available. It's the only way I finally got my backpay situation resolved.

chime is supposed to be faster but my cousin had his backpay still take 3 days even with chime so idk maybe call them? also what date was your claim from? i'm still waiting on mine from january

•My claim was from early January, and I had to submit some additional documentation which is why there was a delay. I guess I'll just keep checking my account and give it another day before I start worrying!

•Mine was actually released on a Tuesday (today), so maybe they're changing their schedule? I really hope it doesn't take until the weekend though!

Just to clarify some confusion in this thread: When NYSDOL shows a payment as "released," it means they've initiated the ACH transfer to your bank. Chime and other online banks typically make funds available as soon as they receive the ACH notification, which is why they're faster than traditional banks that might hold funds for processing. For NY unemployment back payments specifically: - Chime usually processes within 24 hours of release - If released before 3pm, often same-day deposit - First-time deposits may take longer due to verification - Weekends and holidays will add delay If your payment status changes from "released" back to "pending," that indicates an issue that requires contacting NYSDOL directly.
