NY unemployment ID.me verification won't let me upload my documents

I got laid off from my warehouse job in August and applied for unemployment benefits in early September. Everything was going fine until they asked me to verify my identity through ID.me last week. When I try to upload pictures of my driver's license and social security card, the website just freezes or nothing happens when I click the upload button. I've tried using Chrome, Firefox, and even my phone browser but nothing works. I cleared my cache, restarted my devices, even borrowed my roommate's laptop - same issue. This is seriously stressing me out because I can't complete the verification process and my benefits are on hold until I verify. Has anyone else run into this ID.me upload problem with ny unemployment? Any solutions?

Carmen Ruiz

Yeah the ID.me system is absolute garbage. I had the exact same issue in october. Try using the ID.me app instead of the website - that worked for me after like 5 failed attempts on my computer.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try downloading the app right now. Didn't even know they had one!

I finally got past this problem after weeks of frustration! I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that connected me directly with an unemployment agent. They helped bypass the ID.me issue and verified me a different way. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast - worth every penny after all the stress. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

I was super skeptical too but I was desperate after 3 weeks of trying to get thru. It actually works - they just call repeatedly and then connect you when someone answers. Saved me hours of hold music 🙌

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? the unemployment system is such a dumpster fire i'm willing to try anything at this point

It worked for me! The agent I talked to was able to verify me on their end and release my payments. So much easier than dealing with ID.me

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch - they just do the calling and waiting on hold for you. When an agent picks up, they connect you. Saved me like 3 hours of listening to that awful hold music lol

Have you checked your file sizes? ID.me has weird restrictions on how big your photos can be. Try resizing them to under 5MB each - worked for me after hours of frustration.

ID.me is the WORST THING that has ever happened to the unemployment system. I spent 3 weeks trying to verify and even had to do a video call with them because the upload function is completly broken. Try the video verification option if nothing else works.

3 WEEKS?! Omg I'm already behind on rent... how do I get to the video call option?

After you fail the regular upload process a few times, it should give you the option to verify by video call. But be prepared to wait - I was in queue for like 2 hours.

THIS is why NY unemployment is such a nightmare. They implement broken systems then make us jump through hoops. Here's what worked for me with ID.me: 1. Use Chrome in incognito mode 2. Make sure your pictures are under 5MB and in JPG format 3. Turn off any VPN or ad blockers 4. If the button doesn't work, try tabbing to it and hitting Enter 5. If all else fails, you can request a video call verification But honestly, the fastest solution is getting a real person on the phone. I wasted days with the ID.me garbage before I found claimyr.com - connected me with an agent who manually verified me. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after calling for days. The whole system is designed to make you give up. Don't let them win!

THIS!!! The system is 100% designed to discourage people from collecting benefits they deserve. Stay persistent!

not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these never work

@profile12 not a hack, just a service that does the calling/waiting for you. after 6 hours on hold across 3 days, it was worth it to me

i actually found if you completely turn off all extensions in chrome it sometimes works better with id.me. that site is held together with digital duct tape lol

Check ur phone storage. Had the same issue and turns out my phone was too full to save the pics properly! 🤦‍♂️ Deleted some stuff and suddenly it worked.

My storage has plenty of space, but thanks for the suggestion!

Im having the same issue with ny unemployment and id.me - it just times out when trying to upload. Been trying for 5 days now and my bills are piling up. This system is trash.

Pro tip: Id.me works better if you use a desktop/laptop computer (not mobile) and use Microsoft edge browser (weird but true). Also make sure your wifi connection is strong.

Edge?? Seriously? That browser still exists? lmao

I know right? But for some weird reason it worked when chrome and firefox didnt. Government websites are stuck in 2005 😂

So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when my cousin told me about claimyr.com - skeptical AF but tried it anyway. Got connected to a rep in like 30 min who manually verified me and released my payments. If youre stuck in ID.me hell its worth a shot.

hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

It just connects you with the actual unemployment office - its not a replacement for ID.me or anything. They just do the calling and waiting on hold, then transfer you when someone picks up. Saved me hours of my life.

Welcome to the wonderful world of NY unemployment where nothing works as intended! 🤡 Have you checked if your browser is allowing popup windows? Sometimes ID.me opens a separate window for uploads.

Something similar happened to me when I tried to upload my stuff to id.me. problem was my documents were too high quality lol. try taking lower resolution pictures of your docs, around 1-2MB instead of 10+MB files.

Yuki Yamamoto

That's crazy - I'll try taking worse pictures 😂 Only with government sites would BETTER quality be a problem!

people in the thread talking about some service called claimyr that supposedly gets you through to actual humans at unemployment. sounds too good to be true tbh

I actually used it last month when my account got locked. It worked but I was already on my last nerve with the whole system by then

Have you tried using a different device entirely? My laptop wouldn't work but my girlfriends iPad did the trick for some reason.
