NY unemployment BYE date suddenly shortened by 10 days + no payment after hearing
I just checked my unemployment account today and noticed my benefit year end date changed from 3/15 (104 days remaining) to 3/5 (94 days remaining). That's 10 days suddenly gone! No explanation, no email, nothing. I haven't received my payment this week either even though I certified on Sunday like usual. The weird thing is I just had a hearing last Thursday about a previous issue with my claim. The judge seemed to rule in my favor, but nothing is official yet. Could these things be connected? Has anyone else had their BYE date randomly change? I'm getting worried because I'm counting on this money for rent next week.

The system is so buggy right now. My BYE date has changed three times in the past month and I never get any notification. One day it shows September, next day it shows August. I just screenshot everything now.

That's crazy! Did you ever have your payments stop when the date changed? That's what I'm most worried about

Yeah once for like 2 weeks then they suddenly appeared with backpay. No explanation, nothing. The whole system is held together with duct tape and prayers 🙏

I was stuck in the same never-ending circle trying to figure out why my BYE date changed. Spent days trying to call ny unemployment with no luck. Finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me a callback from an actual agent within hours. Seriously, talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast - the rep explained everything and fixed it on the spot. They also have a youtube video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds suspiciously like an advertisement... does this actually work? 🤔

100% worked for me. I was desperate after trying for 2 weeks to get through on my own. Worth every penny when I was about to miss my car payment because of their errors.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch. They just call repeatedly so you don't have to. When they get someone, they connect you. Saved me from spending another day hitting redial.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've been trying to get through for almost 3 weeks now

It worked for me and 2 of my friends. Beats wasting hours of your day hitting redial. claimyr.com if you wanna check it out.

it means ur claim is getting audited. they always cut off the dates right before they do an audit. if u had a hearing they probably triggered a review of ur whole claim. source: happened to me in January

I'm dealing with the exact same BYE date issue! My date jumped from May 22 to May 12 suddenly. Called for THREE DAYS before I got someone on the phone. They told me it was a system update that accidentally changed dates for some people, but they're aware of it. The rep manually fixed mine. You NEED to call because it won't fix itself.

How long did it take to get it fixed after you called?

Once I actually got through to someone, they fixed it in like 5 minutes. The hard part was getting through - took me 73 calls (yes I counted 😭

Here's what you need to know about BYE dates and hearings: First, the BYE date change is likely a system glitch that's been affecting many claims since their latest update. When these glitches happen, payments often get held up temporarily until the system stabilizes or an agent manually fixes it. Regarding your hearing: There's typically a 10-15 business day processing time after a hearing before the official decision is implemented in the system. During this time, your payments might be held as a precaution. What looks like a favorable decision in the hearing doesn't get processed until the judge submits the official ruling. Here's what you should do: 1. Most importantly, keep certifying every week even if payments aren't coming through 2. Take screenshots of everything for your records 3. Try calling, but be prepared for long waits (use claimyr.com if you're desperate - they'll get you a callback from an actual agent) 4. Check your message inbox daily for notifications 5. Remember that if the hearing was decided in your favor, you'll likely receive all backdated payments once it's processed The system is overwhelmed and underfunded, but stay persistent. Getting through to a live agent is your best bet for resolving this quickly.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! This is really helpful. I'll definitely keep certifying. Going to try calling tomorrow.

the bye date thing is NBD but not getting paid is the real issue. check ur payment history - does it say anything? mine said "pending review" for 3 weeks after my hearing before i got paid

Friendly reminder that the BYE date is different from your actual benefit end date! The BYE is just when your claim year expires, not when benefits run out. Still weird that it changed tho

Most important advice: CALL THEM!!! Don't rely on the system to fix itself. I lost out on 6 weeks of benefits because I thought the system would correct itself. It never does. You gotta be proactive.

THIS!!!! If I had a dollar for every time the system 'fixed itself' I'd have exactly ZERO dollars lmaooo

Don't panic. The system goes through routine updates which sometimes causes these glitches. I've seen BYE dates change randomly at least 4 times in the past year. Usually sorts itself out within 2 weeks.

That's reassuring, though two weeks is a long time when you're counting on the money for bills...

I feel ya. Been there. If you absolutely need the money sooner, calling is your only option. Otherwise just wait it out.

So I had the EXACT same thing happen in February - my BYE date shrunk by 14 days and payments stopped after a hearing (which I won). Had to call repeatedly for days. Turns out there was a flag on my account because of the hearing even though I won. They had to manually remove the flag.

I got paid 2 days after they fixed it. The rep told me it was supposed to happen automatically but the system often fails to update after hearings.

So many people dealing with this weird BYE date glitch. Their system is ancient and breaks every time they update it. I'm tech support for a living and I can tell you their whole system runs on something from the stone age.

Almost certain this is related to your hearing. There's an automatic hold placed on accounts during the decision finalization process even if you won the hearing. Stupid policy but that's how it works.

fyi u can request an emergency payment if ur in dire need. there's a specific phrase to use when u call: "i need to request a hardship advance due to pending determination" - they're required to respond to these within 72 hrs
