NY unemployment BYE date confusion - certified but no payment after trying to file new claim
My benefit year ended on 10.23. After certifying that week, the system directed me to a link for additional information. I followed instructions and clicked 'file new claim', completed the ID.me verification process, and continued as directed. However, when I reached the final step, the system told me 'you cannot file a new claim, you already have a claim on file.' My payment went through normally that week, so I thought everything was resolved. But when I certified again this week, I got the same message, and now I don't see any funds released in my account. I've been trying to call for days with no luck getting through to anyone. Before my BYE date, I did speak with a representative who confirmed I would be eligible to continue receiving benefits after filing a new claim. Now I'm confused whether my claim is just pending or if I missed a step somewhere. Has anyone dealt with this situation recently?

almost the exact same thing is happening to me. completed my id.me stuff last week, certified, got paid. this week I certified on sunday but no payment yet. When I look in my payment history, this week shows as pending. What a nightmare.

•So frustrating! Have you tried calling them yet? I'm on day 3 of trying.

After spending weeks trying to get through on the phone, I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me a callback from an actual agent within an hour. Talking to an agent got my payments unlocked in one call. Seriously was the only way I could talk to a live agent after 3 weeks of trying on my own. Check out their explanation video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% got it fixed. My BYE issues were resolved and backpay was released 2 days later. I was skeptical too but nothing else was working for me 🤷♀️

I had this EXACT problem after my BYE date in November. The system is super glitchy but here's what worked for me. After you get the "already have a claim" message, don't try to file again. Instead, just continue certifying weekly. My payment was pending for 2 weeks then suddenly all paid at once. The system sometimes reviews BYE claims automatically without needing a new application.

Not tryna be a downer but ur probly gonna need to talk to a rep to fix this. The BYE date stuff is pure chaos in the ny unemployment system rn. I was in limbo for 5 weeks. Keep certifying each week though so when it does get fixed you'll get all the backpay.

•Thanks for the heads up. Did you eventually have to talk to someone to get it fixed?

•yeah had to talk to an actual person. system glitch couldnt be fixed any other way. Keep certifying each week tho

Check your payment history on the website not the app. Sometimes the app doesn't update but website shows payments are released. Also make sure to check your email for any messages from them about additional info they might need.

•Just checked both - nothing on the website either. No emails from them either. This is so stressful 😫

Hey, former unemployment worker here. This is actually a common issue with BYE dates. The system tries to auto-renew claims but sometimes gets stuck in a verification loop. Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep certifying every week - this is crucial for backpay 2. Try calling at exactly 8:00 AM when they open or just before 5pm when call volume drops 3. Check your mail/email for any verification requests 4. Look at your online account for any action items (sometimes they're hidden in the messages section) 5. Make sure your ID.me verification shows as completed in your account If you absolutely cannot get through on the phones, I've had clients use claimyr.com to get callbacks from agents. It works by repeatedly calling on your behalf until it gets through, then connects you to an agent. The most important thing is speaking to an actual agent who can look at your specific claim and push it through the system. The automated systems often fail with BYE date transitions.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! Really helps to understand what's happening. I'll try those calling times tomorrow.

•Is the claimyr thing for real? Desperate at this point but don't wanna waste money

•Yeah it's legitimate. I've had several clients use it when they couldn't get through normally. Much better than spending days hitting redial yourself.

the ny unemployment website is a hot mess right now. i had this same issue but different message. when i certified it would say "your benefits can not be paid at this time" for like 3 weeks. turned out i needed to just verify my identity again even tho i already did id.me. none of the online messaging was useful. had to get a human on the phone.

KEEP CERTIFYING NO MATTER WHAT. this happened 2 me in sept and I stupidly stopped certifying for 2 weeks cuz I thought it wouldnt matter. when they finally fixed my claim I only got paid for the weeks I actually certified. dnt make my mistake 😭

•Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely keep certifying!

did u check ur DOCR? (Department of Claims Review) status? Sometimes claims get flagged for review after BYE dates and sit in limbo. U need to check ur online acct to see if theres a hold. it might say something like "pending determination" if u look at each individual payment status.

•Where exactly do I find the DOCR status? I don't see that option anywhere in my account

•go to payment history, then click on the specific week that's not paying. should show a status reason there

try reaching out through twitter @NYSLabor - sometimes they respond faster there than on phone. include your full name, last 4 of SSN, and problem in a DM (not public tweet!!

This EXACT thing happened to my husband in october. His BYE date hit, he did the id.me, tried to file new claim, got that error message. Then got payment one week but not the next. We were totally confused. Turns out the UI system was doing a "soft BYE review" (thats what the agent called it) where they dont make you actually submit a whole new claim but just verify identity. But the messaging is TERRIBLE. Took us calling everyday for a week but when we got thru the agent released all payments in about 5 mins. Use claimyr.com if you're desperate - thats how we finally got someone.

•That's really helpful to know - did he just have to verify his identity with the agent or was there something else they needed from him?

•the agent just had to push it through on their end. they could see the identity verification was done, system just needed a human to approve it 🙄
