PA UC benefit year ended 1/13/24 - filed new claim but IDme says wait - did I file too early?

So confused right now! My benefit year end date is 1/13/24 (this Sunday) and I decided to get ahead of things by filing a new claim today. Everything seemed to be going fine until I hit the ID verification part which said to wait... Now I'm wondering if I messed up by filing too early? I went to the IDme site directly and everything shows I'm verified there - my account is good to go and I've never had any problems with identity verification before. Should I have waited until after my BYE date to file the new claim? Will this cause problems with my application? Anyone else run into this recently with the PA UC system?

ya u gotta wait til after ur bye date actually runs out. system wont let u file early. happened to me last month

Oh no! So I did mess up? Will I need to cancel this application somehow or just start over after Sunday?

The previous commenter isn't entirely correct. You can actually file up to two weeks before your BYE date, but there's a specific process. When you get the IDme "wait" message, it's because the system is flagging that your current benefit year is still active. I'd recommend logging back in on 1/14/25 (the day after your BYE date) and continuing the application process. The system should let you proceed with the ID verification at that point. Your partial application should still be in the system - no need to start over completely.

Thank you so much for clarifying! That's a huge relief. I'll wait until Monday (1/14) and try again. Really appreciate the help!

Omg I had this EXACT same problem three weeks ago!!! So frustrating! I ended up having to call them and wait FOREVER to get it sorted out. The UC people told me my claim got stuck in some weird "pending verification" status because I filed before my BYE date.

How long did you have to wait on hold? I'm going through something similar and tried calling but gave up after 45 minutes...

I was on hold for almost TWO HOURS the first time and then got disconnected. Second try was about 90 minutes before I finally got someone. It was awful!!

I've had success using Claimyr to get through to PA UC agents quickly when dealing with these benefit year transition issues. It helped me avoid those endless busy signals and hours on hold. You can see how it works in their video demo (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) - basically they hold your place in line and call you when an agent is available. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Saved me a ton of stress during my BYE transition.

Thanks for the suggestion! If I have trouble on Monday I might give that a try. The thought of waiting on hold for hours is giving me anxiety.

There's actually a specific technical reason for the IDme "wait" message when filing near your BYE date. The PA UC system performs a benefit year cross-check that sometimes conflicts with the IDme verification timing. The best practice is to: 1. Wait until exactly one day after your BYE date 2. Log in early in the morning (system refreshes overnight) 3. Complete the application in one session 4. If you encounter the same IDme message again, clear your browser cache before retrying Also, make sure you have your last 18 months of employment information ready, as you'll need to re-enter all work history for the new benefit year calculation.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll follow these steps exactly on Monday morning. Already have all my employment info gathered so I should be good to go.

Is anyone else annoyed that the UC website doesn't CLEARLY explain any of this?? Like why not just put a notice saying "Don't file until after your BYE date" instead of letting people waste time filling out applications that will just get stuck?

SERIOUSLY!!! The whole PA unemployment system is designed to be as confusing as possible! I swear they do this on purpose to reduce the number of successful claims. I spent THREE WEEKS trying to sort out my benefit year transition and no one could give me a straight answer. Their "help" section is useless.

btw make sure ur work search is all up to date b4 u file the new claim. they checked mine super carefully when i refiled

Good tip - I've been keeping detailed records of my job applications and networking. Should have all the required work search activities documented and ready to go.

One final tip: When you successfully file your new claim after your BYE date, there will typically be a 1-2 week gap before payments resume. This is normal as they process your new application. Make sure you continue filing your weekly certifications during this period, even if the system shows your claim as pending. This ensures you'll receive all eligible payments once the new claim is approved.

Thank you! I'll keep filing my weekly certifications regardless of the status. Really appreciate everyone's help with navigating this!
