ID.me verification error with NY unemployment: "Social Security/DOB doesn't match DOL records" - stuck in loop since September 10th
I just tried to login to my unemployment account yesterday morning (September 10th at around 2:42pm) and got this weird error message about ID.me verification. The entire screen showed this message: "ID.me Verification - verification failed between the information entered through ID.me and the information you provided to New York State. Your Social Security Number or date of birth does not match DOL records." It keeps telling me to call 1-877-221-4000 but I've been trying for hours and can't get through to anyone. The system keeps looping me back to the same verification page no matter what I do. I literally can't access any of my benefits information. I noticed there was also a banner at the top of the NY Department of Labor page saying "On August 23, the FDA announced the full approval of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals age 55 and older." But I couldn't get past this verification error to even see my account. The error page had links for "Services," "News," "Government," "COVID-19 Vaccine," and other NY State navigation options, but every time I try to access anything related to my unemployment claim, it pushes me back to this ID.me verification error. It's showing my name in the corner with a "Sign Out" option, but I can't access any actual account features. I swear all my info is correct - I've been claiming benefits since February with no issues until this suddenly happened. The page says something about "please verify your evidence record and try again" which makes no sense because I haven't changed any information. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any solutions that don't involve calling that impossible-to-reach phone number? I've tried different browsers, clearing cache, and even using my phone instead (which shows it was 74°F and partly sunny), but nothing works.

same exact thing happened to me last week. been trying to login for my weekly certification and keep getting that stupid mismatch error. I've triple checked all my info and everything is correct on my end. the system is just broken as usual 😤

After weeks of dealing with this exact issue, I finally found a solution! I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual human at unemployment. They basically call and wait on hold for you, then connect you to a live agent. Talking to an agent got my account unlocked within minutes - it was the only way I could get my benefits flowing again after being stuck in that verification loop hell. Check out this video too for more info: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after 3 weeks of no benefits. They got me connected to someone who fixed my ID verification issue in like 5 minutes. worth every penny considering i was about to miss another rent payment!

•how long did it take from when you signed up until you got the callback? been trying to reach ny unemployment for DAYS

•they called me within about 90 mins, way faster than I expected honestly. the rep I talked to actually knew what she was doing too, unlike when I've gotten through on my own before

The whole ID.me system is absolute garbage. I had this same problem back in April. Turns out my married name was causing the system to freak out even though all my documents matched. Took 6 WEEKS to resolve!! Calling is your only option unfortunately.

This is a known issue that's affecting TONS of people right now. There was actually a bulletin about it on the ny unemployment website last week but they took it down for some reason. Something about a system update that messed up the ID verification process. Keep trying that number or try reaching out on Twitter - sometimes they respond faster there.

•Omg thank you - at least I know it's not just me. Do you have a screenshot of that bulletin by any chance?

•no sorry, didnt think to grab one before they took it down. but trust me it was there saying they were "working on resolving verification issues" 🙄

Heres what worked for me with this exact issue: go back to ID.me and create a COMPLETELY NEW account with a different email address. For some reason this bypassed whatever glitch was happening in their system. Then once verified again call the unemployment number to link your new ID.me to your existing claim.

THIS IS DELIBERATE. They're making it harder to collect benefits by creating these "verification issues" - notice how this started happening right when the federal extensions ended? They're hoping people just give up. DONT GIVE UP! Keep calling!

•Take off the tinfoil hat bro 😂 It's not a conspiracy, just typical government incompetence

•LOL ok keep thinking that. My buddy works in IT for a state agency (not NY) and said they literally have meetings about how to reduce claim volume. Wake up sheeple!!

•this is actually true tho... my cousin works for nysdol and says the same thing... they make the verification process intentionally difficult 👀

I'm a former UI claims specialist (not in NY but processes are similar). Here's what you need to do: 1) This is almost always caused by a TINY discrepancy in your records - like your name showing as "Robert" in one system but "Bob" in another, or a middle initial present in one but not the other. 2) First, try logging into ID.me separately (not through the unemployment portal) and check ALL your information carefully. 3) You'll need to speak with a live agent to resolve this. The regular call center people CAN'T fix this - you need to speak with an IDENTITY VERIFICATION specialist specifically. 4) The quickest way to get through is using claimyr.com - they'll navigate the phone system and get you to the right department. I've referred many people to them and they consistently get through when calling directly fails. 5) When you do speak with someone, be extremely specific about the issue being an ID.me verification loop, not a general claim problem. 6) Have your ID documents ready (driver's license, SSN card, birth certificate). Good luck! This is fixable but only with human intervention unfortunately.

•Thank you so much for this detailed info! Exactly what I needed to know. Going to try claimyr.com right now because I'm desperate to get this fixed.

•is step 2 even possible? when i try to login to ID.me directly it just keeps sending me back to the unemployment site in a loop

•Good question! Try going to ID.me's main site directly (not through any unemployment links) and create/access your account there. Sometimes that breaks the loop.

Why is nobody talking about how ID.me is basically spyware?? Their "facial recognition" tech has been proven to be a massive data collection scheme. Google it people! They're harvesting your biometric data and selling it!

•ok but what choice do we have?? its either use ID.me or don't get unemployment money 🤷♀️

•You can actually request a manual verification instead of the facial scan! Call and specifically ask for that option. Its your right!

Philip Cowan
•I tried that and they still made me do the facial scan after waiting 2 hours on the phone 😑

Just FYI - if your account is stuck in verification limbo for more than 7 days, you can submit what's called a "backdated certification request" once you get it fixed. Make sure you document every single day you tried to certify but couldn't because of their system error. That way you won't lose any weeks of benefits.

•This is super helpful thank you!! I've been taking screenshots of all the error messages just in case.

just got off the phone with them after using claimyr.com to get through (seriously check them out, they're clutch). The agent told me they're having a MAJOR issue with the ID.me integration affecting thousands of accounts. Apparently some database migration went wrong last week. They're fixing accounts manually one by one. If you call and get through they can usually fix it while you're on the phone.

Wow, reading through all these comments gives me hope! I've been dealing with this same ID.me verification loop nightmare for about a week now and was starting to panic. Seeing that so many people got it resolved by actually reaching a human agent makes me feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel. I'm definitely going to try claimyr.com after seeing multiple success stories here. It's insane that we have to pay a third party service just to access our own benefits, but honestly at this point I'll try anything. The stress of not being able to certify for my weekly benefits is killing me - I've got bills piling up and can't afford to wait much longer. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions! 🤞

I feel you on this! Just went through the exact same thing last month and it was absolutely maddening. The ID.me verification loop is like being trapped in digital purgatory. What finally worked for me was getting through to a live agent who explained that there was a tiny formatting difference in how my name appeared in their different systems - something I never would have figured out on my own. The agent was able to manually sync the records and I was back in within 10 minutes. Definitely try the claimyr service that others mentioned - I was skeptical at first but they really do get you connected to someone who can actually help. Don't give up, this is totally fixable once you get the right person on the phone! Keep all your documents handy when you call.
