Has anyone successfully verified NY unemployment identity by phone instead of ID.me?

I'm at my wits' end trying to verify my identity for my NY unemployment claim. I've attempted the ID.me verification process 5 times now with no success. The facial recognition keeps failing or timing out, and when I tried uploading documents, they said my address doesn't match (even though it does!). Has anyone been able to bypass ID.me and verify their identity by speaking with an actual NYSDOL agent on the phone? I've heard people mention this is possible but can't find solid info on how to do it. My benefits are on hold until this is resolved and I'm getting desperate.

I ran into the same nightmare with ID.me last month! After trying for 2 weeks, I finally got through to a real person at NYSDOL who helped me verify my identity. Instead of wasting more time with the online system, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback from NYSDOL within about 20 minutes. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. The agent was able to verify me over the phone by asking security questions about my work history and personal info. Way easier than dealing with that glitchy facial recognition!

Omg thank you!! I'll check out that service. Did they charge you anything? At this point I don't even care about the cost, I just need my benefits. How long after the phone verification did your payments start coming through?

Yes, phone verification is definitely possible. I'm a career counselor who works with unemployment claimants, and I can confirm that NYSDOL agents can perform manual identity verification. You'll need to have these documents ready when you call: 1) Photo ID (driver's license, passport), 2) Social Security card or official document with your full SSN, and 3) A recent utility bill or bank statement showing your current address. The agent will ask you verification questions based on your claim history and work record. Be patient though - getting through to an agent is extremely difficult right now due to high call volumes.

i had same problem!! the ID.me thing kept saying my drivers license was expired (it isnt!!) and then when i tried to video chat with someone it kept putting me in this endless queue. finally called the unemployment office like 20 times in one day and got through. they verified me right there on the phone with some questions and i got my $$ the next week

That gives me hope! When did you finally get through to them? I've been calling at different times of day but no luck so far.

WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE!!! I spent 3 months - YES THREE MONTHS - trying to verify my identity last year. ID.me is a SCAM designed to make it harder for people to get their benefits. Got locked out of my account 4 times. Had to send physical mail to Albany!!! When I finally got through to a human, took them 5 minutes to verify me. They do this ON PURPOSE to reduce claims. Don't give up though - keep calling and documenting everything.

While I understand your frustration, ID.me isn't designed to prevent legitimate claims - it's meant to reduce the massive fraud that occurred in previous years. However, you're absolutely right that speaking with an agent is often more efficient. For anyone struggling, call volumes tend to decrease in the middle of the month. Also, having all your documentation organized before calling will speed up the verification process significantly.

I had a similar issue in January and yes, phone verification worked for me. I got tired of the ID.me problems and finally just called. Here's what happened: - First call: Got disconnected after 45 minutes on hold 😠 - Second call: Spoke to someone who said they couldn't help me and needed to transfer me (then got disconnected again) - Third call: Finally got someone who could verify my identity They asked questions about my previous employers, exact dates I worked there, my address history, and some tax info from previous returns. It was actually pretty thorough. My claim was processed about 5 days later. Honestly wish I'd just called first instead of wasting time with ID.me!

That's interesting! Do you know which office he went to? I didn't even think about going in person.

Just a correction - NYSDOL Career Centers can provide limited assistance, but most don't handle identity verification for unemployment claims directly. Some locations may help you connect virtually with a claims specialist, but it's not guaranteed at all locations. Always call ahead to confirm what services are available at your local office before making the trip.

After seeing your post, I wanted to follow up. Were you able to get through to anyone? I know how stressful this waiting game can be.

Yes! I actually used that Claimyr service you mentioned and got a callback in about 30 minutes! The agent was super helpful and verified my identity right over the phone. Had to answer a bunch of questions about my work history and some personal info that matched my tax records. She said my payments should start processing within 3-5 business days. SUCH a relief after weeks of ID.me hell. Thanks for the suggestion!
