How to delete unemployment claim and start over with NYS Department of Labor?
I think I messed up my initial unemployment application pretty badly. I was rushing through it last week and I'm pretty sure I put down wrong dates for my last day of work and might have answered some questions incorrectly about why I left my job. Now my claim is showing as pending and I'm worried they're going to deny me because of the mistakes. Is there any way to delete my unemployment claim and start over completely with NYS Department of Labor? I'd rather redo the whole thing correctly than have it get rejected. Has anyone successfully cancelled their claim and refiled?

You can't actually delete a claim once it's submitted to NYS Department of Labor, but you have options. If your claim is still in the initial review phase, you can contact them to request corrections to specific information. For major errors like employment dates or separation reasons, they usually allow amendments during adjudication. Don't file a duplicate claim - that will create bigger problems.

I had this exact same problem last year! Put down the wrong last day of work by like 2 weeks. I was freaking out thinking they'd deny my whole claim. But when I finally got through to someone at NYS Department of Labor they just updated it during the phone call. Took maybe 5 minutes to fix.

The NYS Department of Labor system is so confusing when you're filling it out the first time. I made mistakes too but they were able to correct mine during the adjudication process. I went through something similar about 6 months ago. Made errors on my work history dates and was panicking thinking I'd get denied. The key is to NOT file a new claim - that will just create more problems. Instead, when you get your first eligibility interview (which you probably will since your claim is pending), that's when you can explain the mistakes and they'll update your information right then. The caseworker told me they expect people to make errors on their first application and they have procedures to fix them. Just have your correct employment dates and documentation ready when they call you.
