Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The whole system is a joke honestly. I qualified for the maximum $504 but they reduced it to $380 because of some mysterious calculation error that nobody can explain to me. Been fighting this for months.
That's frustrating! Did you try requesting a hearing? Sometimes that's the only way to get these calculation issues properly reviewed.

You can't get benefits if you quit even if your boss is making your life hell, but you also can't get benefits if you get fired for pushing back against unfair treatment. Oh god this is giving me anxiety - what if they ask for documentation about the childcare issues? What if my employer lies about what happened? What if they say it was misconduct when it really wasn't??

ugh the whole unemployment tax system is such a pain. why do small businesses have to jump through all these hoops just to hire people?? the paperwork alone is ridiculous
I understand the frustration, but the unemployment insurance fund is what provides benefits to workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. It's an important safety net that requires employer contributions to function.

Wait I'm so confused about this whole thing. I got unemployment too but also worked part time some weeks. Do I report everything separately or does it all go together somehow?? This tax stuff is so complicated

The IRS has gotten really good at matching up 1099-G forms with tax returns. They use automated systems to catch discrepancies, so trying to skip reporting unemployment is basically guaranteed to get caught eventually. Better to just include it upfront and avoid the headache later.
