THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A MESS! They make us jump through hoops every week and then can't even pay us on time. I've been waiting since Monday for my payment and getting different answers every time I call. This is people's RENT money we're talking about!
Same boat here, certified Sunday and still waiting. At least yours shows payment processed - mine just says 'claim under review' which is making me really nervous.
I had issues reaching NYS Department of Labor when my employer contested my claim and I needed to check the status. Regular phone lines were always busy. I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Made the whole process way less stressful when I could actually talk to someone about my adjudication.
The whole system is designed to make it hard for workers! Employers know they can slow down the process by contesting legitimate claims. Even if you eventually win, they've made you suffer for weeks without income. It's disgusting how they protect businesses over people who just lost their jobs.
The real consequence is how the system treats you like a criminal for needing help. Having to prove every week that you're actually looking for work, dealing with adjudication delays when there's some minor issue with your claim, getting threatened with overpayment notices... it's dehumanizing. And then they wonder why people get discouraged.
I understand the frustration with the system, but the job search requirements exist for a reason. The key is understanding what NYS Department of Labor actually requires - 3 work search activities per week, and they can include more than just job applications. Networking events, career fairs, even informational interviews count toward your requirement.
Wait I'm confused about this too. I thought if you work any amount you have to start over completely? I've been avoiding taking any short term work because I was afraid of losing my benefits. How many weeks can you work before it resets everything?

Don't forget about the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program if you get selected. It's mandatory but they provide personalized job search assistance and can connect you to additional resources. Also, if you're thinking about starting your own business, look into the Self-Employment Assistance Program - you can use your unemployment benefits to support yourself while getting a business off the ground.

•Self-employment assistance sounds interesting. Are there restrictions on what type of business you can start?

•You need to get approved for the program first and show a viable business plan. It's not available everywhere in NY but definitely worth asking about if you have a serious business idea.
