Finally saw 'payment pending' after submitting ID docs - how long for ny unemployment backpay to arrive?
After weeks of nothing but frustration, I got a call from NY unemployment yesterday afternoon telling me I needed to upload some missing documentation (had to provide proof of previous employment). The rep told me once I submitted that, everything would be processed. I uploaded it last night around 9pm, and just checked my account this morning to see the 'payment pending' status finally showing up! Huge relief. Should I get backpay from when I initially filed 7 weeks ago (except for the waiting week)? For anyone who's been through this already - how many days did it take for your backpay to actually hit your account after seeing the 'payment pending' message? Really hoping this nightmare is almost over.

congrats on getting through! when I got the Payment Pending message, it took exactly 3 business days for all my money to hit my account. They sent it all at once including the backpay (which they absolutely should give you from your filing date minus the waiting week). Just make sure your direct deposit info is correctly entered in their system.

•lol 3 days? mine took 2 weeks even after 'payment pending' showed up. NY unemployment operates on their own timeline 🙄

After weeks of getting nowhere with the phone lines, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual human at unemployment. Agent fixed all my issues right away and my payment status updated the next day. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast, it was the only way I could talk to a live agent. Check out this video on how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•does this actually work? i've been trying to get through for MONTHS

•Yeah it worked for me! Got a callback within about 45 minutes. The unemployment rep said my claim had been flagged for identity verification but nobody had contacted me about it. Got it all sorted in one call.

•I used it last month when my payments suddenly stopped. Had to verify my identity with them and everything got fixed. Worth it considering I was about to miss rent payment.

•wait so how does this work? they just call for you and then connect you when someone answers?

•Basically yeah. You pick which dept you need to reach, they do the calling and waiting on hold, then when a real person answers they connect you. Saved me from losing my mind on hold music 😩

I was in ur same situation back in March. The pending payment showed up on a Tuesday and all my backpay hit my account on Friday morning that same week. Make sure u check ur payment history tab too, not just the main screen cuz sometimes it updates there first.

you'll defiantly get backpay but dont depend on it coming super fast. my experience was 2 weeks from pending to actually gettin paid. the system is so broken its ridiculous. i think it depends on your bank too, some process faster than others

•this ^^^ also some banks hold the deposits for a few days, especially if it's a large amount. my credit union did that with my backpay

Here's what's ACTUALLY going to happen with the NY unemployment system (I worked in a related dept before). Payment pending typically means 3-5 business days for processing, then 1-2 days for bank processing. Your backpay should be included and calculated from initial filing date minus waiting week. If you DON'T see your money within 7 business days after "payment pending" appears, something is wrong, and you need to call them back. The most common issues at this stage are: - Payment method issues (direct deposit info entered incorrectly) - System glitches (they happen A LOT) - Secondary review flags that weren't mentioned to you The absolute best way to resolve any issues is to speak directly with an agent. If you can't get through normal channels, use claimyr.com - I've recommended it to dozens of people struggling with the system and it consistently gets them past the hold time problem. Keep taking screenshots of everything you see in your account as documentation. And be prepared to follow up multiple times - this system wasn't designed to handle the volume it's seeing.

•Thank you so much! I'll definitely keep watching it and follow up if I don't see movement in a week. Already took screenshots of everything just in case!

•wait does the ny unemployment system even work at all? 😂 sounds like it's held together with duct tape and prayers

•It's actually running on 40-year-old COBOL programming with modern interfaces slapped on top, so... basically yes, duct tape and prayers is accurate 😅

u shud check ur payment history under the payments tab not just the home screen. sometimes it shows up there before the home page updates

Anyone else noticeing the ny unemployment system seems to do most updates on Monday nights/Tuesday mornings? My payment status always changed on Tuesdays for some reason.

•System maintenance usually happens on Sundays from what I've heard, so probably processing backlog on Mondays and updates come through Tuesdays

Just got my backpay last week after being in limbo since April!! Took 4 business days from 'payment pending' to money in account. The payment history showed the transaction 2 days before it hit my account tho. They paid everything including all my back weeks minus the waiting period. FINALLY can pay my bills 😭

my sister works for the unemployment office (not in NY but same systems) and she says if you submitted everything correctly you should see the money within a week. the backpay should all come at once. they cant legally withhold ur backpay if uve been certifying every week

Make sure you're still certifying every week even while waiting for backpay!! My roommate thought he could stop once he saw pending and lost a week because of it.

Freya Pedersen
•Yes I'm still certifying! Haven't missed a week, thanks for the reminder though

I filed in may, didn't get payments until JULY. The ny unemployment system is completely overwhelmd still. once my payment status changed to pending it took about 5 days to get the money. but the backpay came all at once which was nice.
