NY unemployment requested proof of wages - sent docs online, how long for response or payment?

So I lost my job back in August and applied for unemployment right away. I was getting paid weekly until October when suddenly my payments stopped. When I checked my account, there was a notification saying I need to verify my previous wages. I submitted all my pay stubs through their online portal on October 15th. It's now been almost 4 weeks and I haven't heard anything back and my claim is still listed as "pending documentation review." I've tried calling the NY unemployment office about 60 times but can never get through to a real person. The automated system just tells me my claim is under review. I'm starting to panic because my savings are almost gone and I have rent due next week. Has anyone else had to submit wage verification? How long did it take for them to process your documents and start releasing payments again? I'm getting desperate here.

LunarLegend

Yup, been thru this exact same thing. Took them 6 WEEKS to review my wage documents and release my payments. The system is a complete joke. I would just keep calling everyday - sometimes if you call right when they open at 8am you can get through.

6 weeks?! I can't wait that long...my landlord is already threatening eviction. Did calling early actually help you get through to someone?

Honestly it's hit or miss. I got through once out of like 30 attempts and the lady just told me "it's in process" and couldn't do anything to speed it up 🙄

I tried calling at 8am sharp and still got nowhere. The system hangs up on me every single time 😡

Yeah the whole thing is broken AF. I ended up having to borrow $ from family while waiting. System is designed to make ppl give up.

After weeks of struggling to get through to ny unemployment about my wage verification, I discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They basically call NYSDOL for you, wait on hold, then connect you when a real person answers. Talking to an agent got my payments unlocked within days after being stuck for weeks! They have a YouTube video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

This sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this service? How do we know it's not a scam?

I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks to get through. It worked for me - finally got to speak with someone who fixed my claim. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for weeks.

waiting on hold for 4+ hours is literally the worst torture ever invented... if theres a service that does it for me I'm interested 👀

sounds like one of those ads that pops up everywhere. anyone ACTUALLY try this? or is it just another way to milk desperate people

I used it and it worked. They don't ask for any personal info besides your phone # to connect the call when an agent picks up. best decision I made after wasting days trying to get through myself.

I had to submit wage verification back in June. Took them 5 weeks and 3 days exactly. The system is so backed up its crazy. My advice is try to talk to your landlord and explain the situation, maybe they'll work with you if you show them proof youve submitted everything.

Yeah you're definitely not alone. I got hit with same thing in September. Had to wait almost 7 weeks before my case was reviewed. Best advice is to document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of your submissions, confirmation numbers, etc. Once my payments finally started again, I did get all my backpay, so at least there's that.

That's good to know they paid you the back weeks. I'm most worried about the missed payments piling up while I wait for them to review.

Yeah they should pay everything retroactively once approved. Small comfort when bills are due now though...

The whole NY unemployment system is DESIGNED to be frustrating so people give up. It's not broken - it's working exactly as intended. They make it difficult on purpose to reduce how many people actually collect benefits. I've been dealing with them for months and it's a nightmare.

THIS!!! 💯 They hope you'll just go away if they make it hard enough. It's all about saving money for the state.

Yep. They rejected my documents 3 times for totally BS reasons before finally approving them. It's intentional gatekeeping.

When I had to verify my wages last year, I tried something different after waiting 3 weeks with no response. I contacted my state assembly person's office. Their constituent services helped push my claim through in about a week. Might be worth a try?

That's a great idea! Do you just look up who your local rep is and call their office?

Exactly. Google your address + state assembly representative. Call their office and explain your unemployment issue. They deal with this stuff all the time and can often get things moving.

I tried this route and my rep's office never called me back 🙃 guess it depends who your rep is and how good their staff is

Word of advice - check your spam folder regularly! They sent me an email asking for additional documents but it went to spam, and I didnt see it for 2 weeks. That reset my whole wait time when I finally submitted the extra stuff they wanted.

Good tip! Just checked and nothing there yet but I'll keep an eye on it.

Listen I know waiting sucks but whatever you do DON'T submit multiple copies of the same documents. My friend did this thinking it would help and it actually flagged his account for review and delayed everything by another month. Just be patient (I know it's hard).

After trying everything else, I finally got my wage verification issue fixed by reaching out through Twitter DM to @NYSLabor with my issue. Surprisingly they responded within a day and escalated my case. Worth a shot if you're desperate!

Social media is sometimes the only way to get attention these days. Companies hate public complaints lol

Tried this yesterday and got a response asking for my info. Fingers crossed something happens!

Here's the real deal on how to handle this situation with NY unemployment wage verification requirements (I worked for the state for 12 years): First, understand that the current backlog for document review is approximately 4-8 weeks. This is unfortunately standard and not something that's going to change overnight. While waiting, here are some actionable steps: 1. DO NOT submit multiple copies of the same documents as this will flag your account for potential fraud review and delay things further. 2. If you can't wait due to financial hardship, you have several escalation options: - Contact your state assembly representative's constituent services office - Reach out via Twitter DM to @NYSLabor with your issue (but NEVER share personal identifying info publicly) - If you absolutely need to speak with someone, use a service like claimyr.com which will wait on hold for you and connect you with an agent (this saved me hours of frustration) 3. Keep claiming your benefits every week even while waiting for document review! This ensures you'll receive all backpay once approved. 4. Document everything: submission dates, confirmation numbers, and any communication attempts. 5. If possible, contact your landlord/creditors with documentation showing you're waiting on unemployment review. Many will work with you if you can show you're actively pursuing resolution. Hang in there - the system is frustrating but persistence will eventually pay off.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I'll definitely check out that claimyr service since I really need to talk to someone ASAP.

Can confirm the assembly rep route works - mine got my issue resolved in about 10 days after I was stuck for weeks.

Hey just a heads up that sometimes they send physical mail requesting additional info instead of emails or portal notifications. Check your mailbox regularly!

I had this exact same issue back in July. The wage verification took them 49 days to process. FORTY-NINE DAYS. I had to move back in with my parents while waiting. The system is completely broken.

49 days should be criminal. How are people supposed to survive?!

I know right?? And they wonder why people get desperate and take under the table jobs while waiting. What choice do we have when the system fails us this badly 🤦‍♂️

Made any progress OP? I'm in the same boat - submitted docs 3 weeks ago and nothing yet...

No luck yet. I'm going to try contacting my assembly rep tomorrow and also looking into that Claimyr service someone mentioned to actually get someone on the phone. Will update if anything changes!

When I went through this, I uploaded all my documents online but ALSO faxed physical copies to them (yes, they still use fax 🙄). For some reason the physical copies got processed faster than the online submission. Worth a try if you're desperate.

I used 518-457-9378 for the Albany office. Make sure to include your claim ID on every page!
