Finally filed my partial claim with NY unemployment after weeks of trying!
After being stuck trying to figure out how to do a partial claim for almost three weeks, I actually managed to get through today! I had my hours cut from full-time to just 16 hours back in February, but kept putting off filing because I heard horror stories about the system. When I finally decided to apply in March, the website kept timing out whenever I tried to enter my partial work hours. Called at least 20 times last week with no luck - just automated messages saying call volume was too high. This morning I decided to try calling right when they opened at 8am and somehow got through after only 45 minutes on hold! The rep was actually super helpful and walked me through everything in about 20 minutes. Just sharing because I was honestly shocked it wasn't the absolute nightmare I expected. Anyone else have surprisingly good experiences lately?

You lucky duck! I've been trying to get through for a partial claim since January and still nothing. Did you do anything special to get through? Or just pure luck?

β’Honestly think it was just good timing. Called right at 8:00:01 am on Tuesday. Maybe less people filing at the start of the week?

β’Gonna try this approach tomorrow morning. Setting my alarm for 7:55 π©

After spending WEEKS trying to call NY unemployment with no luck, I found this service called Claimyr that basically calls for you and then connects you when an agent picks up. It was literally the only way I got my partial claim processed after my hours were cut. Talking to a real person got my benefits flowing within days instead of weeks. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

β’sounds too good to be true. does this actually work or just another scam trying to take advantage of desperate people? π€

β’Not a scam at all! I was super skeptical too but was at my wits end after calling for 3 weeks straight. The service does exactly what it says - calls repeatedly, stays on hold, then rings your phone when an agent picks up. Literally saved me hours of frustration.

β’Definitely for real. I wasted so much time on hold before using it. The way I see it, my time is worth something too, and this saved me from losing my mind π

β’another day another sketchy unemployment service promising miracles lol... what makes this different from all the other 'solutions' that never work?

β’The difference is this one actually does what it says. It's just a calling service - they don't process your claim or anything. Just gets you connected to a real person at unemployment who can help. That's it.

WHAT??? U must have won the unemployment lottery lol. I tried calling for my partial benefits at least 50 times last month before giving up. Maybe the systems are finally less overwhelmed?

When I had my hours cut last year it took me almost 2 months to get through. The system is so stupid with partial claims - like why do we have to call at all? Why can't we just do everything online?? Glad it worked out for you though!

β’OMG this!!! Why can't they just make an online portal that actually works for partial claims?? Every other state seems to have figured this out but NY is still in the dark ages

For anyone struggling with NY unemployment partial claims or any unemployment issues, here's what I've learned after navigating this mess for months: First, persistence is key. Call patterns matter - early morning (right at 8am) or later afternoon (around 3:30pm) seem to have slightly better odds. Second, if calling isn't working, try reaching out to your state representative's office. They sometimes have special channels to unemployment. Third, document EVERYTHING. Every call, every attempt, names of representatives, confirmation numbers. This helps if you need to dispute anything later. Fourth, if you're truly stuck in an endless loop of calling with no success, I highly recommend using Claimyr.com - it's a service that calls unemployment for you and connects you when a representative answers. Saved me weeks of frustration. Finally, when you do get through, be super prepared with all your information, dates, employer details, etc. The last thing you want is to finally reach someone and then realize you're missing critical information. Hang in there everyone - the system is broken but not impossible to navigate! πͺ

β’I tried Claimyr after seeing it mentioned here, and it actually worked. Got through to someone in a matter of hours instead of days. Best decision I made during this whole unemployment nightmare.

β’The state rep tip is super underrated. My assemblyman's office got my claim fixed after 3 months of nothing from regular channels.

Anyone know what the current wait times are like for partial claims processing? I just filed mine yesterday.

β’Filed mine last tuesday and got paid this morning. Like 8 days? Way faster than I expected tbh

β’The rep told me 7-10 business days for processing, but said partial claims are moving faster now than they were a few months ago.

Consider yourself lucky. I had to certify for partial benefits last year and it was an absolute NIGHTMARE. The website kept glitching when I entered my partial hours, then when I finally got through on the phone after like 30 calls, they told me I entered something wrong online and had to wait 2 more weeks for processing. The entire system seems designed to make ppl give up π€‘

I think they must have fixed some of the partial claim issues in the system recently. My wife just filed last week and had a similar experience - expected hell but got through pretty easily. Maybe NY unemployment finally listened to all our complaints? π

β’lol don't give them that much credit. probably just randomly working better for a few weeks before it breaks again π

β’More likely they're just less overwhelmed now that pandemic claims have mostly cycled through the system. But I'll take the improvement whatever the reason!

β’Not yet, they said about 7-10 business days before I'll see the first payment. Will update when it comes through!

So happy for you! I'm trying to file a partial claim too after my company cut everyone to 24 hrs/week. This gives me hope it won't be impossible π

Just be prepared to keep certifying weekly now that your claim is set up. And make super sure you report your work hours correctly each week or they'll come after you later. I almost got hit with an overpayment notice last year because I misunderstood how to report my partial hours.

β’Thanks for the tip! The rep gave me a paper with instructions but its kinda confusing about how to calculate the hours. Did you report just the hours worked or the earnings?
0 coins
Jade O'Malley
β’You need to report BOTH. Hours worked AND gross earnings before tax. And do it consistently every week on the same day if possible. Makes the whole process smoother.

Just want to flag that SOMETIMES the partial unemployment system works better if you use Firefox instead of Chrome. Something about the form submission works differently. At least that was my experience when I filed back in october.

Has anyone had issues with the partial unemployment calculator? When I try to use it on the NY unemployment site it gives me wildly different numbers each time. Wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

β’its not you, its the website π total garbage coding on that calculator. I ended up just calling and having them calculate it for me, was way more accurate
