< Back to New York Unemployment

After 2 months of waiting, ny unemployment agent finally called - got all my backpay released!

After waiting almost 8 weeks with no payment and countless unanswered calls, a DOL agent finally called me yesterday! They went through my claim and found out there was some random flag on my account that was holding up everything. The agent was actually super nice and fixed it all while we were on the phone. Got all of my backpay for the past 7 weeks released at once. So apparently they ARE actually working on cases, just really slowly. Hang in there if your still waiting - there is hope! Don't give up trying to get through.

Congrats! I'm on week 6 of waiting and this gives me hope. Did they tell you what the flag was for? I'm wondering if I have the same issue.

They said something about a fraud prevention flag because I had logged in from a different IP address when I was staying at my parents house. So stupid.

Wow thats ridiculous! So literally just using a different wifi network can flag your account?? The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

That happened to me too last year! Such a mess, they're so paranoid about fraud they end up punishing regular people.

After wasting 3 weeks trying to get through to NY unemployment, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it actually worked! Got a callback from a real agent to my phone in like 2 hours. Talking to an agent got my benefits unlocked so fast - best money I've ever spent to finally get paid. Check out how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds sketchy. Does this actually work or is it another scam?

Not a scam at all! They just keep calling for you and when they get through to a real person, they connect the call to your phone. After trying for weeks myself, I got through in hours.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch - they just have a system that keeps calling and navigating the phone menus until they get a human. Then it forwards the call to you. It's basically what we all wish we had time to do ourselves lol

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? the ny unemployment system has me ready to lose my mind

I was skeptical too but I was desperate after weeks of trying. It worked - got my backpay released same day I talked to the agent. You can check reviews online, they're legit.

You got lucky. I've been trying for 10 WEEKS and nothing. Called 50+ times, emails, everything. This system is completely broken.

Anyone know what number they call from? I keep getting spam calls and ignoring them but now I'm paranoid it might be DOL trying to reach me lol

They usually call from an Albany or NYC area code. Sometimes shows as "NYS DOL" but sometimes just shows as a number.

thx! i'll stop ignoring those calls then 😂

I've been waiting for 9 weeks now. Story of my life - I'll probably never get a call. Glad it worked out for you tho

Try claimyr.com - it worked for me when I was in the same boat. Got through to an agent in a few hours.

This whole system is a joke. They make it so hard to get benefits ON PURPOSE to save money. Its FRAUD on their part but they blame us. My friend works for the state (not DOL) and says they're understaffed by like 40% right now.

100% this. They hope people give up so they don't have to pay.

Here's what worked for me with NY unemployment when I was in your situation - try calling EXACTLY at 8:00am when they open. I got through after trying this for 3 days straight. Use all your devices (phone, spouse's phone, etc) to call at exactly the same time. One will usually get through while others get busy signal.

That used to work but now EVERYONE does that so the lines jam instantly at 8:00 lol

true but still better odds than calling midday when its hopeless

HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S ACTUALLY DOL CALLING AND NOT A SCAMMER?? I got a call saying they were from unemployment but they asked for my social and I hung up!!

Real DOL already has your info - they should only ask to verify last 4 of SSN, never the whole thing. You did right hanging up.

omg now im freaking out what if it WAS them and I missed my chance?!?!?

Call them back using the official number from the website, not whatever number called you. Stay safe!

I'm gonna try sending a physical letter since nothing else works. What a joke that we have to resort to 1950s communication in 2023.

Ok so here's the ACTUAL solution to dealing with NY unemployment that finally worked for me after 12 weeks of waiting and frustration: First, document EVERYTHING. Every call, email, and attempt to contact them. Keep a log with dates, times, and if possible, names of anyone you speak with. Second, contact your state representative's office. This was the game-changer for me. Their office has special contacts at DOL and can often push your case through. I called my assemblyman's office, explained my situation, and within 3 days, DOL called me back. Third, if you need to speak directly with DOL and can't get through the normal channels, try claimyr.com - it's a service that actually gets you connected with a real agent instead of waiting on hold forever. It worked perfectly when I needed to follow up. Fourth, be persistent! The system is designed to make you give up. Don't let them win. Fifth, if you've been waiting longer than 3 weeks for benefits you're owed, file a complaint with the NY Department of Labor Inspector General. This lights a fire under them. The system is incredibly broken, but there ARE ways to navigate it if you're strategic.

Just contacted my state rep's office like you suggested. They took all my info and said they'd look into it. Fingers crossed!

I certified for 12 weeks and got nothing until I finally got a call yesterday too! But they said I'm getting only 8 weeks backpay because I made a "mistake" on 4 weeks that I dont even understand. anyone else deal with this??

Did you report any income during those weeks? Even a tiny amount can cause issues if reported wrong.

I did some doordash during 2 of those weeks but reported it! The other 2 weeks I have no idea what went wrong

You probably need to talk to them again. Use claimyr.com to get through - thats what I did for a similar issue

I gave up waiting and just found a new job. The system is rigged against us. Good for you tho.

0 coins

Nathan Kim

did they tell you why they flagged your account in the first place?

0 coins

-

Caden Nguyen

Some automated system flagged me because of "inconsistent information" which turned out to be me correcting a typo in my address 🤦‍♀️

My neighbor works for ny unemployment (data entry tho not claims) and says they have a MASSIVE backlog right now and are working 6 days a week trying to catch up. At least they're trying I guess...

this post gives me hope but also makes me mad... why are some people waiting 2 months and others 6+ months? makes no sense

0 coins

-

Kai Rivera

It's completley random from what I can tell. My GF filed a week after me and got approved in 10 days. I'm still waiting at 5 weeks.

Its not random - they prioritize certain cases. If ur claim is complex or has any flags, ur screwed
