Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. THE SYSTEM IS SO BROKEN!!! They disqualify people for the stupidest reasons and never explain properly. I bet it's some technicality in how you answered one of the weekly questions. They're looking for any excuse to deny claims these days.

Check if you accidentally answered 'yes' to working or earning money when you didn't, or if you missed reporting some part-time work. Even small mistakes on weekly claims can trigger disqualifications. The good news is most of these can be fixed if you catch them early and provide the correct information.

Wait I'm confused - I thought you needed to work full time for at least a year to get unemployment? My sister told me that but maybe she was wrong. I've been putting off applying because I only worked part time for 6 months before getting let go.
That's a common misconception. There's no full-time requirement - it's based on your earnings during the base period, not whether you worked full or part time. As long as you earned enough wages and worked enough weeks, you can qualify for benefits.

The whole system is a mess now compared to before. They added all these 'improvements' but it just makes everything more confusing for people who actually need help. The old system wasn't perfect but at least you could understand what was happening with your claim.
I feel this so much. My mom had to file in 2018 and it was straightforward. Now I'm trying to help my brother navigate it and there are like 5 different portals and none of them talk to each other properly.
To answer your earlier question about the work search log - you keep it for your records but don't submit it weekly anymore unless specifically requested during an audit or review. The system tracks most of your job search activities automatically now through integrations with job boards.
That's actually helpful to know. So I should still be documenting everything but I don't have to upload it every week? And where do I find these integrated job boards they're talking about?

ugh the whole system is just designed to confuse people on purpose I swear. they make it as complicated as possible with all these abbreviations and forms. took me forever to figure out what half this stuff meant when I first filed
I had the same experience trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor to explain all this. Spent hours on hold. The key thing is don't delay filing! I made that mistake and lost out on benefits for the weeks I waited. In NY you can file online through ny.gov which is usually faster than calling. Make sure your sister has her social security number, driver's license, and employment history ready. She'll need to know her last employer's info including their address and phone number.
