Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. definitely file!! the worst they can say is no and at least you'll know for sure. restaurant workers get screwed over all the time with hour cuts, you deserve benefits if you qualify

One thing to keep in mind is that you have to be separated from work through no fault of your own. Since your hours were cut by the employer and you didn't quit or get fired for misconduct, you should be fine on that requirement. Just be honest about your situation when you file your claim and during any potential phone interviews.

The whole system is broken. I've been waiting 9 weeks for my determination and they won't tell me ANYTHING. Meanwhile bills keep coming and they act like we don't exist. NYS Department of Labor is completely overwhelmed but won't admit it.
I feel your frustration but 9 weeks does seem unusually long. Have you tried requesting a supervisor callback through the online messaging system?

The whole system is ridiculous. They make these calculations so complicated and then make it impossible to get help understanding them. I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months and still don't fully understand how they came up with my numbers.
I understand the frustration, but the calculation is actually fairly straightforward once you know the formula. Your base period wages determine everything, and you can view all that information in your online account.

just to add - u also need to register with the NY job search website i think its called jobs.labor.ny.gov or something like that. its part of the requirements now
Yes, you're thinking of the NYS Department of Labor Jobs Portal. Registration there is required as part of your work search activities, and it counts as one of your three weekly job search requirements.
The whole process is honestly a nightmare. I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months and they make everything so complicated. But basically: file initial claim online, wait for monetary determination letter, start filing weekly claims, do your job searches, and pray nothing goes wrong because good luck reaching anyone if it does. The system is broken but you have to work within it.

the system is so messed up anyway, i filed right away when i got fired and still waited 6 weeks for my first payment because of some adjudication thing. at least you might avoid some of the early rush periods
