Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The NYS Department of Labor system is so confusing with all these calculations! I still don't understand why my benefit amount was lower than I expected even though I made good money.
It could be because they use your base period wages, not your most recent wages. The base period is usually the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before you filed.

The whole system is broken. I've been waiting 9 weeks for my determination and they won't tell me ANYTHING. Meanwhile bills keep coming and they act like we don't exist. NYS Department of Labor is completely overwhelmed but won't admit it.
I feel your frustration but 9 weeks does seem unusually long. Have you tried requesting a supervisor callback through the online messaging system?

The whole NYS Department of Labor system is a joke honestly. They make it impossible to get real information about your claim and then act like it's your fault when you can't figure out what's going on. I've been waiting 3 weeks just to talk to someone about why my payments stopped!
Pro tip: if your claim shows 'Under Review,' check the 'Correspondence' section in your online account. NYS Department of Labor often sends messages there that require a response, and if you miss them, your claim can get stuck in limbo. Also make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even while it's under review - that's super important.
Good call on checking correspondence! I found a message asking for wage verification from my previous job. Guess I need to contact my old employer.

Yes, but it's not automatic. You need to meet specific criteria for 'good cause' and the burden of proof is on you. Significant reduction in hours or changes to working conditions can qualify, but you typically need to show you tried to resolve it with your employer first and that a reasonable person would have quit under those circumstances.
