Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

If you're having trouble explaining this to people or need to contact the NYS Department of Labor for any reason, I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually get through to agents when the phone lines are constantly busy. How much does something like that cost? The phone lines are definitely impossible to get through on.
I'd rather pay a small fee than waste hours trying to get through myself. The time saved was worth it for me when I had questions about my weekly claim certification.

The NYS unemployment system is so confusing!! I've been trying to figure out the same thing and everyone gives different answers. Some people told me there are federal programs that pay more but I can't find any info about that on the my.ny.gov website.
Those federal programs ended in 2021. Right now it's just regular state unemployment insurance through NYS Department of Labor. The benefit formula is pretty straightforward - they look at your highest quarter of earnings in your base period and calculate from there. At $75k annually, the original poster should get a good benefit amount.

don't forget that unemployed people still spend money which generates sales tax revenue, it's not like the government loses ALL tax income from unemployed people

wait so if someone gets laid off vs quits that changes the unemployment type? im so confused about all these categories
No, the economic classification stays the same - both would be frictional if it's temporary job searching. But for NYS Department of Labor benefits, being laid off usually makes you eligible while quitting usually doesn't.

The key thing to remember is that unemployment insurance follows your work location, not your residence. Since your employer has been paying unemployment insurance taxes to New York State, that's where your benefits would come from if needed. Keep your pay stubs showing the NY tax withholdings as they'll be helpful documentation if you ever need to file a claim with NYS Department of Labor.
