Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. NYS Department of Labor historical unemployment rates - what was unemployment by 1933?

I'm doing research on unemployment trends and trying to understand what unemployment rates looked like by 1933. Does anyone know where I can find historical data from NYS Department of Labor about unemployment levels during that time period? I've been looking through their website but can't seem to locate historical statistics going back that far. Any help would be appreciated!

Try the Bureau of Labor Statistics website - they have historical unemployment data going back decades. NYS Department of Labor probably references those federal statistics for historical comparisons. The 1933 rate was indeed around 24-25% which was the worst point of the Depression.

Does Presidents Day affect unemployment claim filing with NYS Department of Labor?

I'm supposed to file my weekly claim this Monday but it's Presidents Day. Does this affect when I can file or when payments get processed? The NYS Department of Labor website doesn't really explain what happens on federal holidays. I don't want to mess up my claim by filing late if the system is down or if there's a different deadline. Has anyone dealt with this before?

The NYS Department of Labor is terrible about communicating holiday schedules! They should put this info right on the login page instead of making us guess. Last year I wasted so much time trying to figure out if Columbus Day affected my payments.

How long does it take to get your waiting week for unemployment benefits processed by NYS Department of Labor?

I filed my initial claim about 2 weeks ago and have been doing my weekly certifications. My claim shows approved but I still haven't received any payment for my waiting week. The NYS Department of Labor website says it can take time but doesn't give specifics. Is the waiting week payment supposed to come automatically after a certain period or do I need to do something? I'm getting anxious because I really need that money for rent.

Same boat here - filed 3 weeks ago and still waiting for that first week payment. The whole system is SO SLOW it's ridiculous. How are people supposed to pay bills when everything takes forever???

What does ineligible week mean for unemployment - NYS Department of Labor claim showing this status

I've been filing my weekly claims for the past month and everything was going fine until this week. When I logged into my.ny.gov to check my payment status, it shows 'ineligible week' for last week's claim. I have no idea what this means or what I did wrong. I answered all the questions the same way I always do - I'm still unemployed and actively looking for work. Has anyone else seen this on their NYS Department of Labor account? I'm really worried because I need these benefits to pay rent.

ugh the NYS Department of Labor system is so confusing!! I had an ineligible week last month and panicked thinking my whole claim was ruined. Turns out it was just because I answered one question wrong by accident. Just keep filing your weekly claims like normal and it should be fine.

What counts as misconduct for NYS Department of Labor unemployment disqualification?

I got fired from my retail job last month and when I filed for unemployment, my claim got flagged for adjudication. My former manager told HR I was terminated for misconduct but I'm not sure what that even means in terms of unemployment benefits. I was always on time, never stole anything, and did my job. The only thing I can think of is that I got into an argument with a customer who was being really inappropriate with me and I told them they needed to leave. My supervisor said I should have called security instead of handling it myself. Is that really misconduct that would disqualify me from getting unemployment? I'm really stressed about this because I need these benefits to pay my rent.

The whole misconduct thing is so subjective it's ridiculous. I've seen people get denied for the most minor stuff while others who actually deserved to be fired somehow get approved. The system is a joke and employers know they can just claim misconduct for anything and make you jump through hoops to prove otherwise.

So true! My friend got denied because she was 'argumentative' with her boss but really she was just standing up for herself when he was being inappropriate.
