How long for unemployment determination - NYS Department of Labor adjudication timeline?
Filed my UI claim with NYS Department of Labor about 6 weeks ago and it's still showing 'adjudication in progress' on my account. I worked two part-time jobs last year and quit one of them in October because the hours were cut to almost nothing. The other job I lost in December due to company downsizing. I've been calling the NYS Department of Labor but can't get through to anyone. My savings are running out and I really need to know how long this determination process typically takes. Anyone else deal with a similar situation?

Adjudication timelines vary depending on the complexity of your case. Since you quit one job voluntarily, NYS Department of Labor needs to determine if you had good cause. With two employers, they also need to verify your earnings from both jobs. Typically takes 4-8 weeks for cases involving voluntary quit situations. Keep filing your weekly claims even during adjudication.

•I've been filing weekly but getting $0. Should I keep doing job searches too during this waiting period?

If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor by phone, I actually found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Basically they call for you and connect you when an agent picks up. I used it when my claim was stuck in adjudication for 2 months and finally got answers about what documents they needed from me. Check out claimyr.com if the phone lines keep being impossible.

•How much does something like that cost? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to talk to NYS Department of Labor.

•I hear you on that frustration, but honestly it was worth it to finally get through and understand what was holding up my claim. The peace of mind was huge.

The whole system is broken. I've been waiting 9 weeks for my determination and they won't tell me ANYTHING. Meanwhile bills keep coming and they act like we don't exist. NYS Department of Labor is completely overwhelmed but won't admit it.

•I feel your frustration but 9 weeks does seem unusually long. Have you tried requesting a supervisor callback through the online messaging system?
