Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

The automatic stabilizer thing is just academic nonsense tbh. What matters is that you file immediately and don't let NYS Department of Labor jerk you around with delays and bureaucratic BS. The system isn't designed to help you, it's designed to make it hard to get benefits. File now and be prepared to fight for every dollar.
I remember learning about this in college! It's basically that unemployment benefits automatically increase government spending during recessions without Congress having to pass new laws. Pretty cool economic concept but yeah, doesn't change anything about how you file your claim with NYS Department of Labor.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST WORKERS! Companies just replace us with machines and we're supposed to be grateful for scraps from unemployment. Been dealing with this crap for months trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor.

No special category for tech displacement in NY unemployment system. It's just a regular layoff for benefit purposes. Some states have retraining funds but the actual unemployment benefits are the same regardless of why you were laid off.

One thing people don't realize is that even if you qualify initially, you can lose benefits if you don't follow all the rules. Missing your weekly claim filing, not doing your job search requirements, or refusing suitable work can all get your benefits stopped.
Good point, what defines 'suitable work'? Do I have to take any job or can I be picky about the salary and type of work?

Just go file already! You're overthinking this. If they employed you then they probably paid into unemployment. The system will figure it out.

Just to add - cyclical unemployment is what leads to those massive spikes in unemployment insurance claims that strain state systems. That's why prevention is so important from a policy perspective.
