Need advice ASAP: Health insurance info due today, delayed by midwest storms. How to ask for extension?
Hey everyone, I just got a notice from my health insurance asking for some info from my doctor. The problem is, it's due today! I need to call and ask for an extension, but I'm worried about the weather delay. We've had some crazy storms here in the midwest this week, and I think that's why I got the notice so late. Any advice on how to explain this to them?

Ugh, insurance companies can be such a pain! š I've been in a similar situation before. My advice: call them ASAP and explain the situation calmly. Mention the weather issues and ask politely for an extension. Most of the time, they're pretty understanding if you're upfront about it.

ā¢This. Honesty is the best policy when dealing with insurance. Just be prepared to provide some proof of the weather issues if they ask for it.

ā¢If they say no, ask to speak to a supervisor. Don't take no for an answer if it's genuinely not your fault!

I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

ā¢Sounds kinda sketchy. Is it legit?

ā¢Totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

ā¢Trust me, when you've been on hold for 3 hours and still can't get through, $20 feels like a bargain lol

Pro tip: Document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of weather reports, any emails or texts about the delay, etc. The more evidence you have, the better your chances of getting that extension.

have you tried faxing the info? sometimes thats faster than calling and you can include a cover letter explaining the situation

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: ⢠Call them immediately. Don't wait. ⢠Be polite but firm. You're not asking for a favor, you're requesting a reasonable accommodation due to circumstances beyond your control. ⢠Have all your facts ready. Date you received the notice, details about the weather, any news reports about mail delays, etc. ⢠If the first person you talk to can't help, ask for a supervisor. ⢠Get any extension they give you in writing - email is fine. ⢠Follow up with a written request as well, either by email or fax. ⢠Set a reminder for yourself to follow up on this in a few days. Remember, you're not the first person to need an extension and you won't be the last. Stay calm, be persistent, and you'll get through this. Good luck!
