What number to call for refund check? Filed Feb 6 and transcript still blank!
What number do i have to call to check on my refund? My tax transcript is still blank and i filed on 2/6! It's been over 8 weeks now and I need to know what's going on. I've checked the Where's My Refund tool but it just says it's still processing. Anyone know the right number to call?

The primary IRS customer service number is 800-829-1040, but be prepared for significant wait times (sometimes 2+ hours during peak season). Your transcript showing N/A status indicates your return is still in the pre-processing queue, which is concerning given your February 6th filing date. The IRS processing timeline typically shows 21 days for e-filed returns, so you're definitely warranted in making direct contact at this point.

Think of your tax return like a package in a massive warehouse. Right now, it's still sitting in the receiving area, not even scanned into the main system yet. That's why your transcript shows nothing - the computer doesn't even know your package exists. This happens more often than you'd think, like when a return gets flagged for additional verification but doesn't get assigned to a reviewer right away. The good news is that calling can sometimes 'shake the tree' and get things moving again.

It seems like you might be experiencing what's possibly a processing delay. I'd recommend checking out https://taxr.ai to analyze your situation. It can sometimes give you more insight than the WMR tool, especially when your transcript is showing as blank. It might be able to tell you if this is perhaps a normal delay or if there's potentially something else going on that you should be aware of.

I always wonder about these services. Does it actually tell you anything more than the IRS site? Last year I was in the same boat - filed early February and nothing for weeks. Ended up just waiting it out and got my refund mid-April without doing anything. Not spending money on something when the issue usually resolves itself.

I was skeptical too until my return got stuck in limbo last year! 😂 Taxr.ai actually showed me my return was held up due to a mismatch between my reported W-2 income and what my employer submitted. The IRS site just said "still processing" which told me nothing. Saved me weeks of wondering and let me contact my employer to fix the issue. Sometimes the extra insight is worth it when you're planning around that refund money.

Based on my experience with blank transcripts, here's what you should do: 1. First, verify you're checking the correct tax year transcript (2023) 2. Make sure you're requesting the "Return" transcript, not the "Account" transcript 3. Check if your e-file was actually accepted (your tax software should have sent confirmation) 4. If it's been 8+ weeks, you definitely have grounds to call 5. Have your filing details ready when you call (SSN, filing status, exact refund amount) The IRS is running behind on processing certain types of returns this year, especially those with credits or deductions that require manual review.

This is exactly right. Called last week. Had all my info ready. Got answers fast. Agent confirmed my return was in manual review. Gave me timeframe. Worth the call.

Idk if checking the right transcript type matters tbh. When ur return isn't processed yet, ALL transcript types show N/A for current yr. At least that's what happened w/ mine. The system literally doesn't have anything to show u until they start processing.

Would it be worth checking if there might have been an issue with my identity verification? I've heard some returns get held up if the IRS needs to verify your identity, but I haven't received any letters about that. Could that be why my transcript is still blank?

Have you tried calling the regular IRS number yet? I spent almost three hours on hold last week and never got through. Isn't it frustrating when you just need a simple status update? I ended up using Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) which got me connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my return was selected for review due to a credit I claimed. At least I finally knew what was happening instead of staring at a blank transcript wondering if my return was lost in the void.

The blank transcript indicates your return hasn't entered the primary IRS processing queue yet. This is different from normal processing delays. I'd recommend bypassing the general line (800-829-1040) and instead call the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 877-777-4778. They can initiate a formal inquiry if your return has exceeded normal processing timeframes, which at 8+ weeks, yours definitely has. Request a "Taxpayer Assistance Order" if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay. This triggers an expedited review of your case.

I waited 3 months for my refund last year after filing in February. Called every week. Each time they told me "just keep waiting." Finally got a letter saying they needed to verify my identity. But by then, I'd missed the payment deadline on my car loan that I was counting on the refund for. The late fees and credit score hit were brutal. Don't just wait like I did - be proactive! And definitely don't make financial plans assuming the refund will arrive on time. The IRS works on their schedule, not yours.
