How to Check Tax Transcript? Filed March 12, WMR Shows 'Still Processing' with TT152

I filed exactly 37 days ago on March 12th and I'm trying to figure out what's happening with my refund. I had one bar on Where's My Refund initially, but now it's showing the 'still being processed' message with tax topic 152. Nothing has changed for 28 days straight. I need to check my transcript to see what's actually going on, but I can't figure out how to access it. Where exactly do you find/check your transcript??? I've been counting on this refund to cover some gaps between my DoorDash and Uber income, and the waiting is killing me. Has anyone successfully checked their transcript and can walk me through it step by step?

To check your transcript, go to irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript. You'll need to create an account if you don't already have one, which requires jumping through several verification hoops (much worse than last year's process). Once verified, you can view/download various transcript types. Look specifically for your 'Account Transcript' for the current tax year, not the 'Return Transcript.' The Account Transcript shows processing codes that tell you what's happening. Your situation with one bar changing to 'still being processed' with TT152 is actually more common this year compared to previous years - I'm seeing about 40% more cases like yours in my client base. It's frustrating but not necessarily indicative of problems.

Thank you for providing such clear instructions! I've been confused about which transcript to check. So the Account Transcript is the one that shows all the processing codes and not the Return Transcript? That explains why I couldn't find any useful information before.

I checked my Account Transcript using these instructions and saw code 570 followed by 971. Does anyone know what these specific codes mean for my refund timeline? The transcript terminology is so technical and I'm concerned about whether this indicates an audit or just normal processing.

I was in the exact same situation last month! Filed March 2nd, had one bar, then the dreaded 'still processing' with TT152. According to the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions), this is normal but could mean weeks of waiting. After trying to call the IRS 9 times with no luck, I used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my return was just in the normal processing queue but with slightly extended timeframes. Not sure if that's worth the fee to everyone, but it saved me a lot of anxiety not knowing what was happening. Just sharing what worked for me... I'm still waiting for my refund but at least I know there's nothing wrong with my return.

OMG I'm literally going through this exact thing right now!!! Filed March 10th and STILL stuck on processing with that stupid 152 topic. I finally figured out how to check my transcript yesterday and I was SO RELIEVED to see it had actually updated!!! It showed a 570 code (hold) but then a 571 code (release) with a refund date for next Wednesday! Check your transcript ASAP - the WMR tool is completely useless this year! I need this money for my kid's daycare payment that's due next week so I've been checking literally every 3 hours like a crazy person 😫

For anyone else in this situation, here's what the codes typically mean: • 570 - Temporary hold placed on refund • 571 - Hold released • 846 - Refund issued If you see 570 followed by 571, that's actually good news as it means whatever issue existed has been resolved.

Thanks for sharing this! Just checked mine and saw the 570/571 combo too. What a relief! And here I was thinking I'd be waiting until Christmas for my refund lol. The IRS really needs to make their tools more user-friendly.

I appreciate everyone sharing these specific code details. It's so much more helpful than the vague information on the IRS site. Just checked and I have the same codes with a refund date for next Friday!

According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.4.1, tax topic 152 simply means your return is being processed and your refund will be issued when processing is complete. Nothing alarming. I'd recommend checking your transcript as others have mentioned, but understanding what you're looking at can be challenging. I've found taxr.ai (https://www.taxr.ai) to be extremely helpful for interpreting transcript codes. Per IRS Publication 1345, normal processing time should be 21 days, but many 1099 filers are seeing delays of 30-45 days this season. I'm somewhat concerned we'll see even more delays as April 15th just passed and the IRS will be handling a new influx of returns.

Is taxr.ai actually accurate though? I'm always skeptical of third-party tools claiming to interpret IRS information. How does it compare to just reading the official IRS code definitions?

I used taxr.ai last year when I had a similar delay with my gig worker income. The IRS transcript showed codes 570 and 971, which officially just mean "additional account action pending" and "notice issued." Not helpful at all. The tool explained it was likely due to income verification and predicted my refund would be released in 14-21 days. It was exactly 17 days later that I got my deposit.

Thanks for sharing this resource! The IRS documentation is so dense that having something translate it into plain English is incredibly valuable. I've been trying to decipher my transcript for days.

Be careful about checking transcripts too frequently! Last year I checked mine every day for 3 weeks straight, and my account got temporarily locked due to "suspicious activity." Had to go through the whole verification process again, which added another 2 weeks to my wait time. The system sometimes flags multiple daily logins as potential unauthorized access attempts. Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if the IRS has improved their security systems this year or if they're still flagging frequent logins.

Did you have to call the IRS to unlock your account or was there an online process? I'm checking mine twice daily and now I'm worried about getting locked out too.

Think of your tax return like a package in a massive warehouse. WMR is like the basic tracking that just says "in transit" while the transcript is the detailed tracking that shows exactly where in the warehouse your package is sitting and who's handling it. I filed March 8th with similar WMR messages, but my transcript showed everything. After 32 days of waiting, my refund suddenly appeared in my account yesterday without any WMR updates at all! The transcript had updated 3 days earlier with code 846 (refund issued). It's like the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing at the IRS - the transcript system is much more reliable than WMR.

I may be in the minority here, but I actually prefer calling the IRS directly rather than relying on the online tools. I called the dedicated refund hotline (800-829-1954) last week about my March 9th filing, and while I had to wait about 35 minutes, the representative was surprisingly helpful. She confirmed that my return was selected for a random review (something that wouldn't have been clear from just the transcript codes) but that everything looked good and processing should be complete within 7-10 days. Sure enough, my refund was deposited yesterday, exactly 8 days later. Sometimes, the human touch can provide insights that the automated systems simply can't.

You got incredibly lucky. I tried calling that exact number on April 2nd, April 5th, and April 9th - each time I got the automated message saying call volume was too high and to try again later. Never even made it to the hold queue.

I filed on March 11th, just one day before you, and had the exact same WMR status change on March 18th. My transcript became available on April 8th showing code 570 (temporary hold) dated March 25th. On April 15th, it updated with code 571 (hold released) and code 846 (refund issued) with a date of April 20th. The refund hit my account this morning, April 19th, one day early. The entire process took exactly 39 days from filing to refund. Based on the similar timeline, I'd guess your transcript will update very soon if it hasn't already.
