Filed January 29th - WMR Still Processing and Transcript Says I Haven't Filed

I filed probably around January 29th and my refund status still shows as processing. I've checked maybe every few days, but there haven't been any updates whatsoever. What's somewhat concerning is that when I try to access my transcript, it seems to indicate that I haven't even filed yet. This isn't my first rodeo with taxes, so I'm fairly certain everything was submitted correctly. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay? I'm not necessarily in a rush, but it's been almost 3 months which seems excessive.

Have you verified that your return was actually accepted by the IRS and not just submitted to your tax software? Could there be an issue with your verification info when trying to access your transcript? Did you perhaps file with a different SSN or name format than what's on your Social Security card? The IRS systems are notoriously disconnected from each other, aren't they? I've seen cases where WMR shows processing but transcripts show nothing because the return got flagged for manual review before entering the main system.

Thank you for these questions! I need to check if my return was actually accepted. My tax software confirmation email only says "submitted" not "accepted." I need this sorted ASAP as I'm counting on this refund.

I experienced something similar with the transcript/WMR mismatch last year. In my case, it turned out my return had been selected for the Error Resolution System (ERS) queue. The WMR showed processing but my transcript wasn't updated until the manual review was completed. I'd recommend checking if there were any math errors or mismatched information in your submission that might have triggered a review.

This is really insightful! I just checked the IRS website and found an article about the different processing systems. Appreciate you explaining how they might show different statuses.

I had this exact situation last year. Filed in January, WMR said processing, transcript showed nothing until April. I spent hours trying to call the IRS - busy signals and disconnects every time. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out my return was sitting in the verification queue with no issues - they just hadn't gotten to it yet. The agent was able to expedite it once I reached them. I'd be cautious about waiting too much longer without at least confirming your return is actually in their system.

Did this service actually work? I tried calling the IRS on March 15th, March 22nd, and again on April 3rd with no success. I'm hesitant to pay for something when the IRS service should be free, but at this point I'm getting desperate.

I had this happen. It was scary. My transcript said N/A. For weeks. Then suddenly updated. Everything was fine. Just delayed. The systems don't talk to each other well. Your return is probably in processing. Just not showing in transcript system yet. Mine took 8 weeks total.

That's interesting! So you waited exactly 8 weeks from filing to receiving your refund? I'm at week 11 now and still nothing. I'm surprised how complicated this whole process can be when everything should be digital and efficient.

OMG this makes me feel so much better! I've been stressing so bad about my return! Called the IRS 14 times yesterday and couldn't get through. It's been 10 weeks for me and I was convinced my return was lost in the void! 😭 Thank you for sharing this!!!

I think I might be in a similar situation... my transcript has been showing N/A for about 9 weeks now. I'm trying not to worry too much, but it's getting harder not to be concerned.

This tax season is like a marathon where you can't see the finish line. I was stuck in the same boat - WMR saying one thing, transcript saying another. Like trying to navigate with two different maps! I finally used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript once it appeared. Just like a good translator, it explained all those cryptic codes and gave me a clear timeline. The relief was like finally seeing road signs after being lost for hours. Worth checking out when your transcript finally updates: https://taxr.ai

I've seen several mentions of this taxr.ai service. Does it request sensitive data like your SSN or full transcript? I'm concerned about security protocols when using third-party services for tax information analysis.

I've seen this exact situation before, and here's what might be happening: 1. First, your return likely got caught in an extended processing queue. 2. Next, the WMR tool and transcript system operate on separate databases that don't sync in real-time. 3. Then, returns filed in January sometimes get flagged for additional review due to EITC/CTC claims. 4. Finally, IRS staffing issues this year have created significant backlogs. I was shocked to learn that some returns can take up to 120 days to process even without obvious errors! The disconnect between systems is a major flaw in the IRS infrastructure.

Have you tried calling the IRS directly? I know, I know... about as fun as a root canal without anesthesia. But sometimes that's the only way to get answers. The Taxpayer Advocate Service can also help if you're facing financial hardship because of the delay. Pro tip: call right when they open (7am local time) on Tuesday-Thursday for slightly better odds of reaching a human being before retirement age. 😅

I had this happen in 2022 and again last year. Both times my transcript showed nothing for about 10 weeks, then suddenly updated all at once. When I finally got my refund, it included interest because it took so long! Check if you have any credits like EITC or CTC - those trigger automatic longer reviews. I remember being concerned just like you are now.

Ngl, had the same issue but it resolved itself. Filed Jan 24th, WMR said processing forever, transcript showed zilch until mid-April. Then boom - everything updated at once and got my DD 3 days later. No explanation, no letter, nothing. IRS gonna IRS I guess. Hang in there!
