What Does Code 570 Mean on My Tax Transcript?

Saw code 570 on my transcript. Don't understand it. Filed in February. Still waiting for refund. Need to know what it means. Is it bad? How long will it delay things?

Code 570 means 'additional account action pending' on your transcript. I saw this exact same code on March 15th when I checked mine. It usually indicates the IRS is reviewing something specific on your return and has temporarily frozen your refund. You need to check if there's also a 971 code which typically follows within 7-14 days! This is time-sensitive because if you don't see movement by April 30th, you'll need to take action immediately!

Thanks for explaining this! So code 570 is like a yellow traffic light for your refund? Just wondering - does having this code usually mean there's a problem, or is it more like a routine checkpoint?

Saw this on my acct last yr too. IRS basically puts a temp hold on ur refund w/ 570. Mine had a 971 follow-up 9 days later w/ a notice explaining they adjusted my refund amt (math error). Got the $ exactly 15 days after the 971 appeared. Def check for cycle dates too - mine was 20241105 which meant weekly updates on Thurs.

How long have you had the 570 code exactly? Mine appeared exactly 22 days after filing and stayed for 18 days before resolving. Does your transcript show any dollar amounts next to the 570? The specific amount can indicate if it's a full or partial hold.

Code 570 indicates a temporary hold on your account per IRM 21.5.6.4.35.1. I understand how frustrating this is. According to current IRS processing guidelines, this can happen for multiple reasons: math error, income verification, or credit verification. Check if you have a 971 code as well - that means a notice has been generated explaining the specific issue. Most 570 holds resolve within 21 days without any action needed from you.

This is similar to what happened with business returns last year. The difference is that individual returns with 570 codes typically resolve faster than business returns with the same code. If your return included Schedule C income, that might explain the additional scrutiny.

Does having a 570 code mean they're definitely sending a letter? What if I've moved since filing? Would they forward the notice to my new address or am I just out of luck waiting for something that might never arrive?

The IRS.gov website has a section specifically about understanding transcript codes. According to their guidance, not all 570 codes result in notices. In my experience, about 70% resolve automatically within 3 weeks. If you've moved, make sure to file Form 8822 to update your address.

570 code is the IRS's way of saying "we're taking a coffee break with your money" 😂 I had this for over a month and kept calling the regular IRS number only to be disconnected after waiting for hours. Finally used Claimyr.com (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to an agent who explained my 570 was just because they were verifying my W2 with my employer. Nothing I did wrong! The agent released the hold while I was on the phone and I got my refund the next week. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human!

Code 570 is an Administrative Freeze that can be triggered by multiple factors in the Integrated Automated Technologies (IAT) system. While calling can sometimes help, many 570 codes resolve automatically through systemic processing. The IRS phone system is designed to prioritize certain issues, and a recent 570 code may not qualify for expedited assistance. I'd recommend waiting at least 21 days from the code date before attempting contact.

I had the exact same issue last tax season! My 570 appeared in March 2023 and I panicked because I needed that money for a medical bill. Everyone told me to just wait, but calling actually worked for me too. The thing about 570 codes is they can mean completely different things for different returns. For my sister, it was just verification and resolved itself. For me, it was a simple mismatch they fixed in minutes once I actually reached someone. Persistence is key with the IRS.

If I decide to call the IRS about my 570 code, what should I have ready? Should I prepare all my tax documents? Do I need my previous year's AGI? Just want to be fully prepared if I get through.

You'll need your current tax return, any notices you've received, and two forms of ID verification (typically SSN plus date of birth, filing status, and the exact refund amount). Have you checked your transcript for any other codes that might appear alongside the 570? Codes like 971, 420, or 424 would provide more context about your specific situation.

Another option is checking your transcript for cycle dates and TC 150 codes. The cycle ending digit indicates your processing day. TC 570 with TC 971 usually means a notice was issued. I had my 570 removed after verifying identity through ID.me on the IRS portal. Check WMR daily - when your bars return after disappearing, that's a good sign processing has resumed.

Code 570 can be nerve-wracking, but try not to panic! I went through this exact situation last year. The key thing to remember is that 570 is just a temporary hold - it doesn't mean your refund is gone or that you did anything wrong. Mine appeared about 3 weeks after filing and lasted exactly 16 days before automatically releasing. During that time, I obsessively checked my transcript daily (not recommended for your sanity!). The most important thing is to look for any accompanying codes like 971 or 977, which will give you more specific information about why the hold was placed. If you don't see any movement after 21 days from when the 570 first appeared, that's when I'd consider calling. But honestly, most of these resolve on their own without any action needed from you.

I'm dealing with code 570 right now too and it's so stressful! Filed my return on February 12th and the code appeared on my transcript about 10 days ago. What's really confusing me is that I don't see any 971 code yet - just the 570. Should I be worried that there's no 971 code showing up? Also, when you all say "check daily" - is there a specific time of day the IRS updates transcripts? I've been checking randomly throughout the day and driving myself crazy. Really hoping this resolves soon because I was counting on that refund for some home repairs.

Hey Geoff! I totally understand the stress - I'm pretty new to dealing with tax stuff myself, but from what I've been reading here, it sounds like not having a 971 code yet might actually be a good thing? From what others are saying, the 971 usually means they're sending you a notice about something specific that needs your attention. Maybe your 570 is just a routine verification that will clear up on its own? As for checking times, I've been wondering the same thing! I've been obsessively refreshing too and it's definitely not good for my anxiety. Really hoping both of our situations resolve soon - the waiting is the worst part!

I'm going through the same thing right now and it's really nerve-wracking! I filed my return on February 28th and just noticed the 570 code appeared on my transcript yesterday. Reading through all these responses is actually making me feel a bit better - it sounds like most people's situations resolved within a few weeks without having to do anything. I'm curious though - for those of you who had the 570 code resolve automatically, did you get any kind of notification when it was lifted? Or did you just have to keep checking your transcript until it disappeared? Also, is it normal for the "Where's My Refund" tool to still show processing while you have a 570 code? Mine just says "still processing" with no bars, which is making me wonder if that's related to the hold. Thanks for sharing all your experiences - it's really helpful to know I'm not alone in dealing with this!

Hey Ava! I'm pretty new to all this tax transcript stuff too, but from what I've been reading in this thread, it sounds like you're experiencing exactly what most people go through with the 570 code. The "still processing" message with no bars on Where's My Refund is totally normal when you have a 570 - the system basically pauses your refund status until the hold is resolved. From what others have shared, most people just had to keep checking their transcript until the 570 disappeared and then their refund processed shortly after. It's really reassuring to see so many people saying theirs resolved automatically within 2-3 weeks! I'm in a similar boat and trying not to stress about it, but the waiting is definitely the hardest part. Fingers crossed both of our situations clear up soon!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now! Filed on February 15th and just saw the 570 code appear on my transcript three days ago. Reading everyone's experiences here is honestly such a relief - I was starting to panic thinking I did something wrong on my return. It's really helpful to see that most people's 570 codes resolved within 2-3 weeks automatically. I'm definitely going to try to resist the urge to check my transcript every single day (easier said than done!). For anyone else going through this - it sounds like patience is really the key here, even though the waiting is incredibly stressful when you're counting on that refund. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and experiences!

I'm in the exact same boat as you Aisha! Just discovered this code on my transcript yesterday and immediately started googling frantically. Finding this thread has been such a huge relief - I had no idea this was such a common thing that usually resolves itself. I filed around the same time as you (February 18th) so we're probably on similar timelines. It's really comforting to see so many people saying theirs cleared up automatically within a few weeks. I'm definitely going to try the "don't check daily" approach too, though I suspect I'll probably fail at that! Thanks for sharing - it helps knowing there are others going through this right now.

I'm completely new to dealing with tax transcripts and just discovered I have a 570 code too! Filed my return on February 22nd and the code showed up about a week ago. Reading through all these experiences has been incredibly reassuring - I had no idea this was so common! It sounds like most people's situations resolved within 2-3 weeks without needing to take any action, which is such a relief. I was worried I'd made some major error on my return. Quick question for those who've been through this - did anyone's "Where's My Refund" tool change at all while you had the 570 code, or did it just stay on "still processing" the entire time until it resolved? Also, when it did resolve, did your refund come pretty quickly after the code disappeared? Thanks so much to everyone sharing their experiences - this community is amazing for helping newcomers like me understand what's going on!

Hi Emily! I'm super new to this whole tax transcript thing too, so I can totally relate to the confusion and worry! From what I've been reading in this thread, it sounds like the "Where's My Refund" tool typically just stays stuck on "still processing" the entire time you have a 570 code - it's like the system pauses your status updates until the hold gets resolved. I filed around the same time as you (February 25th) and just noticed my 570 code a few days ago, so we're probably on very similar timelines! It's so reassuring to see that most people here had their codes clear up automatically within 2-3 weeks. I'm definitely going to try to be patient and not check obsessively (though let's be honest, I'll probably still check way too often!). Really hoping both of our situations resolve soon - the waiting is definitely nerve-wracking when you're new to all this!

I'm also completely new to understanding tax transcripts and just found out I have a 570 code! Filed on February 20th and noticed the code appeared on my transcript just two days ago. This thread has been such a lifesaver - I was honestly panicking thinking I'd made some huge mistake on my return. It's incredibly reassuring to read that this is actually pretty common and that most people's codes resolve automatically within a few weeks without any action needed. I keep wanting to call the IRS immediately, but based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like patience really is the best approach (even though the waiting is torture when you're counting on that refund!). For those of you who had your 570 codes resolve - did you notice any pattern in terms of what day of the week your transcript updated? I've been checking randomly but wondering if there's a better strategy. Thanks so much to everyone for sharing their experiences - this community is amazing for helping us newcomers navigate this confusing process!

Hey Mateo! I'm brand new to all this tax stuff too and just discovered my 570 code yesterday - filed February 24th so we're right in the same timeframe! Reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a huge relief. I was also ready to panic-call the IRS until I saw how many people said theirs resolved automatically. From what I've been picking up in this thread, it sounds like transcripts typically update weekly based on your cycle code (that last digit thing people mentioned), but I'm still trying to figure out exactly how that works. The waiting is definitely killing me since I really need that refund, but it's so comforting to know we're not alone in this! Fingers crossed both of ours clear up soon - seems like most people here had good outcomes within 2-3 weeks!

Hi Mateo! I'm also really new to this whole tax transcript thing and just found my 570 code yesterday too! Filed on February 26th, so we're all pretty much in the same boat timing-wise. This entire thread has been such a godsend - I was literally googling "is my refund gone forever" before I found this discussion! 😅 From what I'm gathering from everyone's experiences, it really does seem like most of these resolve on their own within that 2-3 week window. I've been trying to figure out the whole cycle code thing too - apparently that last digit tells you what day of the week your account updates, but I'm still confused about how to actually use that information. The hardest part is definitely just sitting and waiting when you really need that money! But seeing all these success stories is keeping me sane. Really hoping all of us February filers see some movement soon!
