IRS Transcript Codes 570 and 971 - What do these mean and why am I delayed?

I checked my transcript today and saw codes 570 and 971 pop up on my account. Anyone know what these mean? Is this gonna delay my refund even more? Already been waiting 2 months since I filed.

Code 570 means the IRS has frozen your refund for review. Code 971 indicates they're sending you a notice explaining why. Usually these codes appear together when the IRS needs to verify something on your return. Could be income verification, credits claimed, or math error. Check your mail in the next 2 weeks for the notice.

ugh seriously? more waiting? 😤 any idea how long the review usually takes?

It varies, but typically 30-60 days from when you get the notice. Some resolve faster if its just a simple verification.

Hey instead of playing detective with these codes, try taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when you'll likely get paid. Only costs a buck. Saved me hours of research https://taxr.ai

I had the same codes last year and it turned out to be an identity verification issue. The IRS wanted to make sure I was really me before releasing my refund. Got a CP05A notice asking me to verify my identity online through ID.me. Once I completed that, my refund was released within 2 weeks. Don't panic - these codes are super common and usually resolve quickly once you respond to whatever they're asking for.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really reassuring to hear it worked out quickly once you did the ID verification. Did you have to wait long for the CP05A notice to arrive in the mail, or did they email you about the ID.me thing? I'm hoping mine is something simple like that and not a full audit situation 🤞
