IRS Transcript Shows Codes 150, 570, 971 - What do these mean and when will I get my refund?

Just checked my transcripts and I see code 150 and 570 both dated 3/4, then theres a code 971 dated 3/11. Can anyone tell me what this means for my refund timeline? Really need this money soon.

Let me break this down for you - these codes are actually pretty common on transcripts right now. Code 150 is just showing your tax return was filed and processed. The 570 is a temporary hold on your refund - could be for identity verification, income verification, or they're reviewing something specific. The 971 means they sent you a notice explaining why. Don't panic tho! Usually these clear up in 2-3 weeks if everything checks out. Quick tip: I started using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze my transcript and it's been a game changer. It breaks down all these codes and gives you a really clear timeline of what's happening. Way better than trying to decode everything yourself or waiting on hold with the IRS for hours.

How exactly does taxr work? Does it just read transcripts or what?

nah its actually pretty comprehensive! uploads any tax doc (w2s, 1040s, letters from irs, etc) and gives you specific feedback about refund timeline + how to fix any issues. saved my butt when i got audited lol

Those codes typically mean: 150 is your tax return was filed and processed, 570 is a temporary hold on your refund, and 971 means they're sending you a notice explaining why. Usually when these codes appear together, you'll get a letter within 2 weeks explaining what additional info they need.

ugh thanks... any idea how long the hold usually lasts? 😩

It really depends on what they need from you. Could be a few weeks if they just need to verify something, or months if they need documentation

I had the same codes last year, took about 6 weeks to resolve after I sent in the documents they wanted

Hey! Instead of trying to decode these manually, you should check out taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. Its only $4.99 and totally worth it. https://taxr.ai

Just tried it and WOW 🤯 way better than piecing together info from reddit posts. It even caught something I missed about my withholding adjustment!

Check your wage and income transcript too. Sometimes the 570 pops up when your W2 info doesn't match what you reported

Hey! I was in the exact same situation last month - had those same codes on my transcript and was freaking out about when I'd get my refund. The 570 hold cleared after about 3 weeks for me, and I ended up getting a CP05 notice in the mail asking me to verify my identity online. Once I did that, my refund was released within a week. The waiting is honestly the worst part, but try not to stress too much - these codes are super common this filing season and most people get their refunds eventually. Just keep checking your transcript every Friday when they update! 🤞
