IRS Transcript shows Code 570 and 971 - What do these codes mean and timeline?
Just checked my transcript and saw Code 570 appeared last week followed by Code 971. Anyone know what this means for my refund? Getting worried since I need this money.

Tax specialist here - Code 570 means there's a temporary hold on your account, and 971 indicates that IRS sent you a notice explaining why. Usually this combo means they're reviewing something on your return. Could be income verification, credits claimed, or math error. Check your mail carefully next few weeks for their letter.

•Typically 30-60 days, but I've seen some resolve in 2 weeks. Depends what they're reviewing.

Hey guys instead of playing detective with these codes, I found this tool called taxr.ai that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats happening and when youll likely get paid. Its only $1 and saved me hours of research. https://taxr.ai

Code 570 is an Additional Account Action Pending freeze, and 971 means they issued a notice about it. This usually happens when IRS needs to verify something on your return - could be income matching, dependent verification, or credits like EITC/CTC. The good news is most of these resolve automatically once their systems finish cross-checking. Keep an eye out for CP05 or similar notice in the mail explaining exactly what they're reviewing. Timeline is typically 4-8 weeks from when 570 posted.

I went through this exact same situation last month! Code 570 froze my refund and 971 meant they sent me a notice (which took forever to arrive in the mail). Turned out they just needed to verify my W-2 income against what my employer reported. The whole process took about 5 weeks total, but once it cleared, I got my full refund plus a small amount of interest. Definitely check your mail daily and don't stress too much - these codes are way more common than you'd think!

•That's really reassuring to hear! Did you have to do anything on your end or did it resolve automatically? I'm hoping mine clears up soon since I really need the money right now 😅

I had the exact same codes show up on my transcript about 3 weeks ago and just got an update yesterday - my 570 hold was released! Turns out they were just verifying my educational credits. The letter (CP05) took almost 2 weeks to arrive and basically said they were doing routine verification. I didn't have to do anything except wait it out. My refund should hit my account within the next few days according to WMR. Hang in there, most of these resolve on their own! 🤞
