Is Code 570 on Transcript a Bad Sign?

Just checked my transcript and saw code 570 on it. Is this bad news? First time seeing this and not sure what it means. Should I be worried or is this just part of normal processing? Filed about 3 weeks ago and was hoping to get my refund soon.

Code 570 simply means "Additional Account Action Pending" - it's not necessarily bad. It indicates the IRS has temporarily frozen your refund while they review something. This could be for various reasons: - Verification of income or credits claimed - Math error correction - Identity verification - Random review Often it's followed by code 571 (freeze released) within a week or two. Check if you also have a 971 code (Notice Issued) - this could give you a hint about what they're reviewing.

Did you claim any tax credits this year? EIC, Child Tax Credit, or Education credits? Those often trigger additional review.

Yeah, I claimed the Child Tax Credit for my daughter. First time claiming it actually. Is that probably what triggered the review?

Almost certainly. The IRS is extra careful with Child Tax Credits this year. They're verifying eligibility before sending refunds with these credits. Usually clears within 2-3 weeks.

I had that 570 code last month and was freaking out too! I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained exactly what was happening. The site showed me that in my case, it was just a routine verification of my W-2 information. The analysis predicted my refund would be released in 9 days, and it was spot on! Much better than guessing what all those codes mean.

Is that site actually reliable? I've heard mixed things about tax transcript readers.

It was for me! What I liked is that it didn't just give generic definitions - it looked at the pattern of codes on MY transcript and explained what they meant together. The regular IRS tool just shows the codes without explaining how they relate to each other.

570 is actually super common this filing season. I'm a tax preparer and about 30% of my clients have gotten this code. Most are resolved within 2 weeks with no issues. The IRS is just being extra cautious with fraud prevention this year.

If you're really concerned, you can call the IRS to check the status. I was in the same situation last month and tried calling the regular IRS number for days with no luck. I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed it was just a routine review of my education credits and nothing to worry about. Saved me a ton of anxiety!

Thanks for the suggestion. If it doesn't change in the next week I might try that. Did they tell you how long the review would take when you called?

Yes! The agent gave me an exact timeframe - said my review would complete in 14 days, and it was actually done in 10. Way better than just wondering what's happening.

I've had 570 codes three years in a row now. It's just part of the process for some of us. Usually clears up on its own, but if you have a 971 code too, watch your mail for a notice explaining what they need from you (if anything).
