TT Loan & Credit Karma Money Card - When Will Refund Actually Hit?

So I'm possibly getting a bit anxious about my refund timing since I need to schedule some medical appointments soon. My transcript shows a DDD of 2/24, which I think is today? But I'm using TurboTax with the fees coming out of my refund, and I chose to have it deposited to my Credit Karma Money card. Does anyone know approximately when it might actually show up? I'm guessing there might be some delays because of the TT loan and the fees being deducted, but I'm not really sure how that whole process works...

With a DDD (Direct Deposit Date) of 2/24, you might see your funds anywhere from that date to possibly 5 business days afterward. This can vary depending on several factors... When TurboTax takes their fees from your refund, there's usually a slight delay because the money first goes to their bank partner (typically Santa Barbara Tax Products Group or similar), they deduct their fees, and then forward the remainder to your Credit Karma Money card. In my experience, this process typically adds 1-3 business days to the timeline, but I've seen it take longer in some cases, especially during peak tax season.

The Refund Transfer process (RT) via TurboTax creates what's known as a Temporary Account for your refund processing. Your IRS Direct Deposit Date indicates when funds are transmitted to this intermediary account, not your final destination account. If you're experiencing extended delays beyond 5 business days post-DDD, contacting the IRS directly can provide account-specific information about your refund status. I've found Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) significantly expedites reaching an actual IRS representative instead of waiting hours on hold. They can verify if the funds were successfully transmitted to the RT processor and identify any potential issues in the disbursement chain.

Is paying for a service to reach the IRS really worth it compared to just waiting? Seems like spending more money when we're already waiting on money to come in.

I used Claimyr on February 12th after waiting on hold for 3+ hours the day before. Got through to an agent in about 15 minutes! Totally worth it when you're stressed about where your money is.

Does Claimyr work for all IRS departments? Or just refund status calls?

Thanks for mentioning this! I had a similar issue last year with my RT refund and spent almost an entire day trying to reach someone. Wish I'd known about this then.

Credit Karma Money cards typically process deposits faster than traditional banks once they receive the funds. The key issue here is the TT loan and fee extraction process. When you opted for fees to be taken from your refund, you created what's called a Refund Transfer. Your money follows this path: IRS → TurboTax's bank → fees deducted → remainder to your Credit Karma card. Most Credit Karma users report seeing funds 2-3 days after the DDD, but it can take up to 5 business days in some cases.

FYI - if u want to understand exactly what's happening w/ ur refund, check out taxr.ai (https://www.taxr.ai). I was super confused abt my TT refund last yr bc my transcript had weird codes. Taxr explained everything and even predicted when my $ would hit my acct. It's way better than the generic WMR tool that just shows those 3 bars. Helped me track the whole RT process from IRS → TT → my bank.

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago! Here's what happened for me step by step: 1. First, I checked my transcript and saw my DDD (2/3 in my case) 2. I called TurboTax customer service (866-888-9107) to ask about the timeline 3. They confirmed that they typically receive the funds from IRS on the DDD 4. Then they process the fees and forward the remaining amount within 24-48 hours 5. Finally, Credit Karma usually makes funds available same-day once they receive them In my experience, I got my refund exactly 2 days after my DDD. The TurboTax rep told me this is pretty standard for their refund transfers with Credit Karma specifically. Hope this helps with your medical appointment planning!

Think of your tax refund like a package going through multiple shipping facilities before reaching your doorstep. The DDD is when it leaves the IRS warehouse, but it still needs to go through TurboTax's processing center (where they take their cut) before final delivery to your Credit Karma card. The technical term for this is a "Refund Transfer" (RT) or "Refund Processing Service" (RPS) which utilizes a temporary bank account established by TurboTax's financial partner. According to internal IRS document 7130.A, these transfers typically complete within 1-3 business days post-DDD, though peak season (which we're in) can extend this timeline.

• This matches my experience exactly • Had DDD of 2/15 • TurboTax took fees on 2/16 • Money appeared on my Credit Karma card 2/17 • Was surprised how smooth it went! • The tracking on the TT website wasn't very helpful though

Last year I had my refund sent to my regular bank instead of Credit Karma and it took 5 days after DDD to show up. This year I switched to Credit Karma and it was only 2 days after DDD. Credit Karma seems to process these faster for some reason.
