Filed and accepted 1/31 - 846 code showing DD 2/24 - When do deposits usually hit for Credit Karma?
So I'm really anxious about my refund this year because I need it for some medical bills that have been piling up. Here's what happened step by step: 1. I filed through Credit Karma on January 31st, 2024 2. It was accepted the same day 3. I checked my transcript last night and saw code 846 with direct deposit date of 2/24 4. I can see that Credit Karma will be taking their fees out before sending me the rest I'm wondering if anyone else who uses Credit Karma can tell me when your deposits actually hit your account? Does it come right on the direct deposit date or sometimes earlier? I'm trying to plan exactly when I can schedule these medical appointments. Thanks for any information you can share!

The 846 code with a February 24th date represents the Treasury's scheduled transfer date, not necessarily when funds will post to your account. Credit Karma, like other tax preparers utilizing Refund Transfer products, typically receives the funds from IRS, deducts their preparation fees, then initiates a secondary ACH transfer to your designated account. This secondary transfer can introduce a 24-72 hour delay beyond the 846 date, contingent upon your financial institution's processing protocols. Most Credit Karma users report receiving funds within 1-2 business days after the 846 date, though weekend processing may extend this timeline.

Got mine yesterday. Filed with Credit Karma. 846 date was 2/22. Money hit account 2/21. One day early. Fees taken out automatically. No issues.

My 846 date was February 19th and the deposit hit my account at exactly 3:17am on February 20th. Credit Karma took their $59.99 preparation fee plus the $39.99 audit defense I added. The remaining $2,341.02 was available immediately in my checking account. This was exactly 21 days after I filed on January 30th.

I swear the IRS timing is like waiting for a pizza delivery... "30 minutes or less" turns into an hour and a half! š My experience: filed Jan 28th, 846 code showed Feb 17th (Saturday), money actually appeared Feb 20th (Tuesday). The weekend definitely added delay. At least Credit Karma's fees were exactly what they quoted me - no surprise charges like I had with TurboTax last year.

Did anyone else get their refund who filed around the same time with Credit Karma? I filed on 2/1 and have the same 846 code with 2/24 date but I'm worried because last year my bank took forever to process it after Credit Karma sent it. Has anyone had issues with them holding the funds this year?

I had the exact same timeline as you last year. Filed end of January, got 846 code, but then my refund got stuck in some kind of review. Called the IRS for three days straight with no luck getting through. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in like 20 minutes. They confirmed my refund was just delayed because of random verification and released it that same day. Worth the fee when you need those medical bills paid! Saved me hours of redial hell.

I believe there might be some confusion about how Credit Karma's refund process works. When the 846 code appears on your transcript, the IRS sends the money to the temporary bank account set up by Credit Karma. They deduct their fees, then forward the remaining amount to your personal bank account. This two-step process typically adds 1-2 business days to the timeline, though some banks process these deposits faster than others. If your 846 date is February 24th, you'll likely see the funds between February 24th-27th, depending on whether your bank processes deposits on weekends.

That's not entirely accurate in my experience. Credit Karma actually uses MetaBank for their refund transfers, and they're usually faster than other preparers like H&R Block or TurboTax. Last year my funds came a day BEFORE my 846 date, which surprised me. The bank makes a huge difference too - online banks seem to process them faster than traditional brick-and-mortar banks.

Think of the 846 date like a shipping notification. The package has left the warehouse (IRS) but still needs to go through the delivery service (Credit Karma) before arriving at your house (bank account). I've used Credit Karma for three years now, and I typically get my refund within 24 hours of the 846 date. My credit union posts ACH transfers immediately, which helps too.

In my experience as a former banking professional, most financial institutions will process ACH deposits like tax refunds as soon as they receive them, though some may have specific posting times. Credit Karma's refund transfer service is generally quite efficient, and while there is technically a secondary transfer involved, it's usually handled very quickly. Your deposit will likely appear in your account within 1-2 business days of your 846 date, barring any unusual circumstances.

Wait, does it matter what time of day the IRS sends it? Like if they send it at midnight on the 24th will it hit my account that same day? Or does the IRS batch process these at a certain time? This is my first time using Credit Karma and I'm so confused about the timing!

I'm not convinced the February 24th date is reliable. Last year my transcript showed February 17th, 2023 for the 846 code, but the money didn't hit my Credit Karma account until February 23rd, 2023. That's a full 6 days later. The IRS seems to be running behind schedule this year based on the processing dates I've been tracking. I'd suggest planning for your medical appointments no earlier than March 1st to be safe.

I've been filing with Credit Karma for the past three tax seasons, and in my experience, the delay you mentioned is unusual. Typically, the funds arrive within 1-2 business days of the 846 date. Last year, my 846 date was February 22nd, and I received my refund on February 23rd. The year before, it was exactly on the date shown. While it's always good to plan conservatively, a 6-day delay is definitely an outlier rather than the norm.

Have you checked if your bank processes deposits on weekends? Since your 846 date is 2/24, which is a Saturday, some banks won't actually post the deposit until Monday 2/26. Also, did you opt for the advance with Credit Karma or just the regular refund transfer? That makes a difference in timing too.

I was in almost the exact same situation last year! Had medical bills piling up and was anxiously watching my transcript daily. Filed with Credit Karma on January 29th, saw my 846 code with a February 21st date, and the money actually hit my account at 3am on February 22nd. Credit Karma took their fees and sent the rest right away. What really helped my anxiety was that I had set up text alerts with my bank for any deposits over $100, so I got a notification the moment it landed. Might be worth setting that up if your bank offers it!

Those text alerts saved my sanity too! I set mine up for any transaction and got the notification at 3:17am that my refund had arrived. Woke up to good news instead of checking my account every 15 minutes like I did last year!

Have you considered using the IRS direct deposit option instead of going through Credit Karma next year? I switched to direct deposit this year after using tax preparer bank products for years, and my refund came exactly on my 846 date with no fees taken out. Isn't it worth saving those preparation fees, especially when you need the money for medical expenses? You could still use Credit Karma to prepare your return but just opt for direct deposit to your own bank account.
