TOP Offset Line says no debts but I know I have them - Anyone else experiencing this glitch?

Called the Treasury Offset number today to check my debts and the automated system is saying I have no offsets but I definitely have student loans in default. Something seems off. Anyone else run into this? Starting to wonder if the system is broken or if maybe they cleared my debt without telling me (wishful thinking lol).

The TOP system can take up to 30 days to update after a debt is reported. If you recently defaulted, it might not show up yet. Also, due to the student loan payment pause that just ended, some loans are still being processed in the system. Give it a few weeks and check again.

In that case, you should definitely contact your loan servicer directly. The TOP system has been glitchy lately 🤔

Before you go down a rabbit hole trying to piece together whats happening, I'd recommend using taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on with offsets and delays. Its only $1 and way better than playing detective. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Yeah it's legit! I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of research and stress. It even predicted when my refund would hit my account down to the day 💯

Hate to burst ur bubble but the offset line has been super unreliable lately. Don't trust it. My friend thought she was in the clear and still got her refund taken 😭

The way the IRS and Treasury dept communicate is a complete joke rn. Nothing syncs up properly between systems

I work at a tax firm and we've seen this a lot lately. The TOP system is having major issues since they switched some backend systems in December. Your best bet is to check directly with whoever you owe money to.
