IRS Transcript Shows "$0.00" for 2023 Instead of "INFO" Like Other Years - No Record of Filed Return Despite Electronic Confirmation 3 Months Ago
Filed my taxes electronically back in April 2024 for the 2023 tax year. Got confirmation from my tax software that it was accepted. Was supposed to get a small refund of about $550. Now I'm checking my transcript online through the IRS website and it's showing absolutely nothing for 2023. I'm looking at my account right now on the IRS website at 5:24 with 17% battery left (need to charge soon), and under "Details By Year" section, it's showing really strange info. For 2024, 2021, and 2020, it shows "INFO" with a little "i" icon next to each year. But for 2023, it just shows "$0.00" with no icon and no other information. There's nothing indicating that my return was even filed or processed. The page has a disclaimer at the top that says "The numbers here may not reflect: Recently filed or processing returns, Pending payments or adjustments, Information on your business account, Installment agreement fees" I checked my account transcript and it's completely blank for 2023. No codes, no dates, nothing. The site has options for "Make a payment" and "Frequently Asked Questions About Balances" but none of that helps my situation. I haven't received any notices or letters from the IRS either. No refund, no updates, just silence. It's been 3 months now since I filed. Should I be worried that the system shows "$0.00" for 2023 while showing "INFO" for all other years? Has this happened to anyone else? Do I need to file again or is this just how the IRS website displays information for processing returns? The page has a "Tools" section and "Privacy Policy" link at the bottom, but I don't see anything that explains why my 2023 return appears different from other years.

Based on your screenshot and description, this indicates that the IRS system doesn't show a processed return for 2023 yet. The "$0.00" for 2023 means the IRS acknowledges the tax year exists but doesn't show any processed return or balance due. The "INFO" indicator for other years typically means those tax years exist in the system but may not have complete information to display. Several possibilities: 1. Your return is still in processing queue (IRS is severely backlogged) 2. Your return was rejected but notification failed to reach you 3. Your return was flagged for identity verification 4. There was a system error recording your return Recommended actions: - Check your e-file status through your tax software - Call the IRS at 800-829-1040 (prepare for long wait times) - Consider using the "Where's My Refund" tool on IRS.gov - Check if you received any emails from your tax software about rejection Don't file again yet unless instructed by the IRS, as this could create more confusion in their system.

•Thanks for the detailed response! I did check Where's My Refund but it just says "Your tax return is still being processed." Been saying that for 3 months. I'll try calling them to see what's going on.

I had the exact same issue with my 2022 return last year and was going CRAZY trying to figure out what all the codes and missing info meant. Some random redditor told me about taxr.ai and it literally saved me hours of guesswork. You upload your transcript and it tells you exactly what's happening with your return in plain English. It showed me I was under manual review and gave a timeline estimate. Ended up being spot on - got my refund exactly when it predicted. Highly recommend checking it out (https://taxr.ai) instead of trying to decode this stuff yourself!

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's actually pretty amazing. You just upload your transcript and it breaks down every code, explains where you are in the process, predicts when you'll get your refund, and even flags any potential issues. Saved me from calling the IRS like 5 times. Best thing is it updates as your transcript changes so you can track progress.

•is this legit tho? seems too good to be true tbh 🤔

•100% legit! I was skeptical at first too but it literally saved me from a mental breakdown trying to figure out why my refund was delayed. The IRS phone lines are impossible and their website explains nothing. This actually gave me real answers.

•You just upload the transcript you already downloaded from the IRS. You can even redact personal info before uploading if you want. It just needs to see the codes to analyze them.

I had the same problem and wasted so much time trying to get through to the IRS. After three failed attempts of waiting 2+ hours on hold just to get disconnected, I used that Claimyr app (claimyr.com) and finally got a callback from an actual IRS agent in like 45 minutes. The agent told me my return was held up for identity verification that I never received notification for. Got it sorted out right there on the phone. Worth every penny not to deal with the hold music and disconnects.

•Wait what's Claimyr? Never heard of it before

•It's a service that basically navigates the IRS phone system for you and holds your place in line. Once they reach an agent, they connect the call to your phone. Saved me from the endless hold times and getting disconnected right when you're about to talk to someone.

•I was hesitant too but got desperate after my third disconnect. It worked exactly as advertised - got a call back with an actual IRS agent on the line. Trust me, after you've spent hours on hold just to get disconnected, you'd pay anything to avoid that nightmare again.

•Honestly it was the best money I've ever spent on a service. The time it saved me was worth 10x what I paid. Finally got my refund released after talking to the agent.

Had a similar situation but turned out my return was on manual review. Check your mail carefully. The IRS sent me a letter requesting additional information but it looked like junk mail so I almost threw it out. If they need verification they'll eventually send something, but it can take 6-8 weeks after filing to even generate the letter.

Check your USPS informed delivery if you have it. Sometimes the IRS sends verification letters that look generic. Also do you have access to your Record of Account transcript? Sometimes that shows more detail than the Account transcript. And as others said, the IRS is still processing 2022 returns in some cases so theyre crazy behind.

•I tried to pull the record of account transcript but it says "no record of return filed" which is freaking me out. I definitely filed and got confirmation.

•That def sounds like either: 1) it got rejected and your tax software didn't notify you, or 2) it's still in the processing queue. Did you file with a PIN? If you filed with incorrect info compared to last year they might have flagged it.
0 coins
Aria Washington
•No PIN, and my info hasn't changed since last year. My refund was only $550 so I'm not sure why they'd flag it.

The IRS is so broken this year! Im in a similar situation but with 2022 taxes. Filed in February 2023 and was supposed to get $3800 back. Still nothing. Called like 20 times and got through twice. First time they said "still processing" and hung up on me. Second time they said there was an "error" but couldn't tell me what it was and to just keep waiting. I'm at 16 months of waiting now. The system is a complete joke.

This happened to me last year. My return got flagged for identity verification but they never sent me the letter. I only found out when I finally got through to an agent. Once I verified my identity online at id.me my return started processing within a week. Check if you can do identity verification even without getting a letter.

Whoa, I'm in the exact same situation! I filed in March, got confirmation it was accepted, but my transcript looks identical to yours. Complete blank for 2023 with just $0.00 showing. I called last week and after 2 hours on hold was told my return was "in the processing queue" and they couldn't tell me anything else. IRS is a complete joke this year.

•Have you received any updates since then? I'm wondering if I should even bother calling.

•Nope, still nothing. The agent basically told me theres nothing they can do to "speed it up" and I just have to wait. Super helpful 🙄

Verify your identity! https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification-for-irs-letter-recipients This happened to me and my return was on hold because they flagged it for identity verification. As soon as I verified online (which took like 15 minutes) my refund was released within 3 weeks.

CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSMAN!! Seriously. After waiting 5 months for my refund last year with no updates and no help from IRS phone agents, I contacted my congressman's office. They have a special taxpayer advocate line. Had my refund 3 weeks later. They can push your return through when normal channels fail.

•This is actually solid advice. My sister did this after 4 months of nothing and suddenly her return was processed. Their offices deal with this all the time.

•Just google your congressional representative, go to their website, and look for "constituent services" or "help with federal agencies". They'll have a form to fill out where you explain your situation. They're motivated to help because they want your vote!

This happened to me. My transcript was exactly like yours for months. It turned out my verification info for my id.me account wasnt matching perfectly with my tax return info (my address had an apartment # on tax return but not on id.me). Fixed that and my transcript updated within days. Worth checking!

my transcript looked exactly like this for my 2021 return. turns out it was auto-selected for audit but they never sent me a notice. fun surprise when i finally got through to someone on the phone! not trying to freak you out but might be worth checking if that's your situation.

I'm seeing a lot of similar posts like this. It's ridiculous how the IRS can just hold everyone's money with zero communication! I had a $1200 refund that took 13 months to receive. No explanation, just randomly appeared in my account one day. The system is completely broken.

I see people suggesting calling the IRS but lemme save you some time. I tried calling 14 times over 2 months. Got hung up on 9 times after waiting 1-3 hours each time. The 5 times I did get through, they just read me the same generic script about "still processing" and couldn't give any specific info. You're better off using one of those IRS transcript reading tools or call services that others have suggested here.

How did you file? I had this issue when I used FreeTaxUSA. Their confirmation didn't mean much - turns out there was an error in transmission but they never notified me. I ended up having to refile in July and finally got my refund in October. Check with whatever software you used to see if there were any actual reject codes that maybe didn't get communicated to you.

I tried to deal with this same situation for WEEKS. Burned through all my lunch breaks on hold, kept getting disconnected. Finally caved and used taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze my transcript. Turns out I had a freeze code I didn't even know existed. The tool explained exactly what was happening and what to do about it. Saved me so much time and frustration. Wish I'd found it sooner!

•Both! It showed me exactly which form I needed to submit for my situation. I was able to fax it directly to the right department (it gave me the number) and my refund was processed 3 weeks later. Without knowing what was wrong I was just spinning my wheels.

SAME SITUATION OMG. filed in februrary. checked my transcript last week and It looks just like yours. I called yesterday and got through after 3.5 hours (kill me) and they said they have no record of receiving my return even though I have confirmation from TaxAct that it was accepted. I had to refile yesterday and now im at the back of the line. check with whatever service you used!!!

ok so I'm probably the only one here who actually works in tax (not for IRS) but this is happening A LOT this year. The IRS is drowning in backlog due to the pandemic still. We're seeing clients with simple returns waiting 6+ months when it should be 21 days. If your return is even slightly unusual or has any potential flags (earned income credit, recovery rebate, changed address, etc) it's getting pushed to manual review which adds months. Your transcript showing $0.00 means they know you exist but haven't processed anything yet.

•you seem knowledgeable - is there actually anything we can do to speed this up or are we just completely at their mercy?
0 coins
Maya Lewis
•Mostly at their mercy unfortunately. The only things that sometimes work: 1) Taxpayer Advocate Service (but they're also backlogged), 2) Congressional inquiry as someone mentioned, or 3) Hardship claim if the refund delay is causing serious financial issues like eviction risk, utilities being shut off, etc.

•Thanks for the insight. Is it worth me calling or should I just keep waiting?

•If it's been 3+ months, it's worth one call just to make sure they actually have your return in the system. After that, calling repeatedly won't help unless your situation changes. They literally can't do anything to speed it up once it's in the processing queue.

Have you moved recently? I was in this exact situation and it turned out the IRS had sent a verification letter to my old address even though I had updated my address with USPS. The letter got returned to them and they just sat on my return without processing it further. Had to call and verify my identity over the phone.

Before you spend hours on IRS hold, use the automated "Where's My Refund" at https://www.irs.gov/refunds or download the IRS2Go app. Sometimes that will give you status info without having to talk to anyone. Also check the Return Transcript not just Account Transcript - sometimes one shows info the other doesn't.

This is such a frustrating situation and you're definitely not alone! I went through something similar last year. The "$0.00" display for 2023 while other years show "INFO" is actually a red flag that something is holding up your return processing. A few things to check immediately: 1. **Verify with your tax software first** - Log back into TurboTax and check if there were any rejection notices that might have been missed. Sometimes the initial "accepted" status can change. 2. **Try the Record of Account transcript** instead of just the Account transcript - it sometimes shows different information about processing status. 3. **Check for identity verification requirements** - Go to https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification-for-irs-letter-recipients and see if you can verify your identity even without receiving a letter. Many people are getting flagged for this without proper notification. 4. **Look for any mail from IRS** - Including stuff that looks like junk mail. They're notorious for sending important notices in generic envelopes. Given that it's been 3 months with zero movement, I'd definitely make that one phone call to confirm they actually have your return in their system, but don't expect much beyond "still processing." The congressional representative route that others mentioned is actually legit if you hit the 4-6 month mark with no progress. Keep us updated on what you find out!
