IRS Refund Delay: Filed Months Ago, No Refund, Can't Reach Anyone - Help!
I filed my taxes months ago and still haven't received my refund. I've been trying to reach the IRS for weeks but can't get through to anyone. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to get in touch with a real person at the IRS?

Ugh, same boat here. Filed in February and still nothing. The "Where's My Refund" tool is useless. Just says it's still being processed š

ā¢February?! That's insane. I filed in April and thought I was having it rough. The IRS is such a mess this year.

ā¢Have you tried calling early in the morning? I heard that's the best time to get through.

ā¢Tried that. No luck. It's like they don't want us to reach them š¤¬

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/5jrMesbidvI

ā¢Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

ā¢Totally legit. I was skeptical too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

ā¢How long did it take to get through?

ā¢About 2 hours total, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They called me when an agent picked up.

Pro tip: If you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay, mention that when you finally get through. They might expedite your refund.

Have you checked if there were any errors on your return? Sometimes even small mistakes can cause major delays.

ā¢I triple-checked everything before submitting. Pretty sure it's error-free, but who knows with the IRS š¤·āāļø

This is why I always owe a little instead of getting a refund. Rather have my money throughout the year than deal with this nonsense.

ā¢Not about being rich, it's about adjusting your withholdings. But I get it, refunds can be helpful for some people.

Here's what I know from dealing with this: ⢠The IRS is severely backlogged due to COVID and staffing issues ⢠Paper returns are taking the longest to process ⢠If you claimed certain credits (like EITC or CTC), that can also slow things down ⢠Sometimes, returns get flagged for "additional review" which can add weeks or months to processing time ⢠If it's been more than 21 days since you e-filed (or 6 weeks for paper returns), you can request a trace on your refund Hang in there, OP. It's frustrating, but most people do eventually get their refunds. Keep trying to reach them, and consider contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service if you're facing serious financial hardship due to the delay.

ā¢Thanks for the detailed info! I did claim EITC, so that might be part of the holdup. Guess I'll keep waiting... š©

ā¢What's the Taxpayer Advocate Service? Never heard of it.

ā¢It's an independent organization within the IRS that helps taxpayers resolve issues. They can sometimes help if you're facing serious problems due to IRS delays.

Have you tried reaching out to your congressional representative? Sometimes they can help push things along with the IRS.

ā¢This actually worked for me last year! Took a few weeks, but my rep's office got things moving.

Plot twist: the IRS is using our refunds to fund a secret space program š½šø

ā¢If that were true, at least something cool would come out of this mess š

I'm dealing with the exact same issue! Filed in March and still waiting. One thing that helped me was setting up an online account on the IRS website - sometimes it shows more detailed status info than the "Where's My Refund" tool. Also, if you have a local IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center nearby, you might be able to walk in for help (though call first to check if appointments are needed). The wait times are brutal, but don't give up! Your refund is out there somewhere in the system.

ā¢That's a great suggestion about the online IRS account! I didn't know it could show more details than the basic refund tool. Definitely going to try that. Also appreciate the tip about the local assistance centers - I had no idea those existed. It's reassuring to hear from someone else in the same boat. This whole experience has been so frustrating, but it helps to know we're not alone in dealing with these delays.
