IRS Refund Delayed: April 3rd Due Date Passed, No Payment Received - What to Do?
Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with my tax refund situation. It was supposed to come on April 3rd, but I still haven't received anything. I tried calling the IRS, but I couldn't even get through to speak with anyone. Has anyone else experienced delays with their refund this year? Any advice on what I should do next?

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. My refund was supposed to come in March, and here we are in May with nothing. The IRS is such a mess this year š¤¦āāļø

ā¢Tell me about it! I've been waiting since February. It's like they're playing hide and seek with our money š

ā¢Guys, have you checked the "Where's My Refund" tool on the IRS website? Sometimes it gives more info than what you get on the phone.

ā¢Yeah, I've checked that tool like a million times. It just says 'processing' every single time. Super helpful, right? š

I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

ā¢Wow, that sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

ā¢I know it sounds crazy, but it actually worked for me. I was skeptical at first too, but after waiting on hold for hours myself, I decided to give it a shot. Totally worth it to finally talk to a human.

ā¢I get the skepticism, but it's legit. They even have a money-back guarantee if you don't get through. Plus, think about how much your time is worth - I'd rather pay $20 than waste another 3 hours on hold.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with this for the past few months: ⢠The IRS is severely backlogged due to COVID-19 and staffing issues ⢠If you filed electronically and chose direct deposit, you should generally receive your refund within 21 days ⢠Paper returns are taking much longer to process, sometimes up to 6-8 weeks or more ⢠If there are any errors or discrepancies on your return, it can cause significant delays ⢠The "Where's My Refund" tool doesn't always have the most up-to-date information ⢠Calling the IRS is hit or miss - sometimes you can't get through at all My advice: 1. Keep checking the "Where's My Refund" tool, but don't rely on it entirely 2. If you can get through on the phone, try calling early in the morning or late in the evening 3. Be patient (I know it sucks) - unless it's been more than 8 weeks, they probably won't have much info for you 4. If you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay, mention this when you call - it might help prioritize your case Hang in there, everyone. It's frustrating, but we're all in this together.

ā¢Great info! Quick question - do you know if amending a return causes even more delays? I realized I made a mistake on mine š¬

ā¢Oh yeah, amending definitely adds more time. From what I've heard, it can take up to 16 weeks for amended returns to be processed. Might be worth waiting for your original refund before amending if possible.

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS seems to be prioritizing returns with refunds owed to them? I owe money this year and they processed my return lightning fast š

Pro tip: if you're really desperate, try contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help if you're experiencing financial hardship due to refund delays.
