IRS ID verification: Can't schedule callback time? Need advice!
Hey everyone, I need to verify my ID with the IRS but I'm worried about missing their call. Does anyone know if there's a way to schedule the callback for a specific time? I'm thinking after 11am would be best for me.

Unfortunately, you can't schedule IRS callbacks for specific times. They usually have long hold times, so you probably won't miss it if you request a callback now. If you do miss it, you can usually request another one within a couple days.

ā¢Yep, this is true. I've been through the process and its pretty frustrating. Just make sure your phone is nearby for a few hours after you request the callback.

ā¢Really? That sucks. You'd think they'd have a better system by now š

ā¢Thanks for the info! I guess I'll just have to keep my phone close and hope for the best.

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting for hours. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

ā¢I was skeptical at first too, but I tried it and it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration.

ā¢How long did it take for them to call you back?

ā¢It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still better than being stuck on hold yourself!

Pro tip: make sure you have all your documents ready before the call. They'll ask for things like your social security number, previous tax returns, and any letters they've sent you. Being prepared can make the whole process go smoother.

ā¢Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that can help get through faster.

Here's what I learned from my experience with IRS ID verification: ⢠Be patient. The process can take several attempts. ⢠Have all your documents ready: SSN, previous tax returns, any IRS letters. ⢠Use a landline if possible for better call quality. ⢠Take notes during the call, including the agent's name and ID number. ⢠If you get disconnected, you can usually call back and explain to get priority. ⢠Consider using ID.me for online verification if that's an option for your situation. ⢠Double-check all information before submitting to avoid delays. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
