IRS Amended Return Filed in March - No Updates for Months. Help?

Hey everyone, I'm at my wits end with this amended return situation. I filed back in March and still haven't heard a peep. No updates, no notices, nothing. It's been radio silence for months. Anyone else in the same boat or have any advice on how to get some answers? I'm thinking about calling the IRS but we all know how that usually goes...

I found a way to solve delayed amended tax return processing, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIuXbTNhWW4

I'm telling y'all, the key is to befriend your local IRS office staff. Bring them cookies, learn their kids' names. Then BAM! Instant tax return processing. (This is a joke, please don't actually do this) πŸͺπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

Ha! If only it were that easy. Maybe throw in some milk with those cookies?

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

Sounds kinda sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

$20 just to talk to the IRS? That's ridiculous. Why should we have to pay to get basic service?

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate and gave it a shot. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny IMO.

Has anyone tried faxing their inquiries to the IRS? I heard it might be faster than calling or mailing.

What year is it, 1995? Does anyone even own a fax machine anymore? πŸ˜‚

Hey OP, just wondering - did you make any major changes on your amended return? Sometimes that can affect processing time.

Not really, just corrected some income that was reported wrong on a W-2. Shouldn't be anything crazy.

Pro tip: If you really need to talk to someone at the IRS, call right when they open in the morning. You might have to wait on hold for a while, but it's your best shot at getting through. Good luck!

I've tried this, and it does slightly lower the wait time. But you still need some patience.

Serious question: has anyone had luck getting help through social media? I've seen some people tweeting at the IRS for help.

I tried that once. They just sent me a link to their FAQ page. Useless.

Wait, the IRS is on social media? What's next, TikTok dances about tax deductions? πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

Thanks for the responses, guys. Yeah, I've checked the online tool but it just says it's been received. No other info. I guess I'll try to forget about it, but it's hard when you're counting on that money, you know?

I hear ya. Have you considered reaching out to your local congressman's office? Sometimes they can light a fire under the IRS's butt.

Unpopular opinion: maybe if we all just did our taxes right the first time, we wouldn't need to file so many amended returns πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Wow, way to victim blame. The tax code is stupidly complicated, mistakes happen.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been waiting since February for mine. It's like they've thrown our returns into a black hole or something. Have you tried checking the "Where's My Amended Return" tool on the IRS website? It's not super helpful, but at least it might give you some basic info.

I feel like that tool is just there to give us false hope. It hasn't updated for me in ages.

Listen up, folks. Former IRS employee here. The backlog is real, and amended returns are at the bottom of the priority list. My advice? Unless you're facing financial hardship, just sit tight. Calling won't speed things up. If you absolutely need to know what's going on, here's what you can do: 1. Use the "Where's My Amended Return" tool every few weeks. 2. If it's been more than 16 weeks, then try calling. 3. Be prepared with all your info when you call - tax year, social security number, exact amount on the return, etc. 4. Be polite to the rep - they're dealing with angry people all day. 5. If all else fails, contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can help in certain situations. Remember, patience is key. The system is overwhelmed, but they'll get to your return eventually.

Hate to break it to ya, but you're probably in for a long wait. I filed an amended return last year and it took almost 9 months to get processed. The IRS is seriously backed up. My advice? Forget about it for now and be pleasantly surprised when it finally comes through.

That's a solid strategy if you can afford to wait. But for some of us, that money is really needed right now.

Balanced Opinion: While Claimyr is validated as a useful tool for those who are desperate and can afford it, one must also understand that it is a third-party provider. The IRS itself does not endorse such services, and hence, if you are skeptical, consider exhausting all free options and tools offered by the IRS first. Additionally, consider that repeatedly trying to reach the IRS at different times might eventually get you through without any additional costs.
