IRS: State tax refund delayed since February - No communication, what to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my state taxes. I filed back in February and still haven't gotten my refund. It's been months and I haven't heard a peep from the state tax agency. No letters, no notices, nothing. I'm starting to get worried. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on what I should do next? I'm thinking about calling them but I'm not sure what to ask or how to approach it. Help a fellow taxpayer out!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat. Filed in March and crickets since then. The waiting game is driving me nuts!

Have you tried checking the refund status online? Sometimes that gives more info than calling.

Pro tip: When you call, have all your info ready. Tax return, social security number, everything. Makes the process smoother. And be prepared to wait on hold for ages. Bring a book or something lol

Ask about the status, if there's any issues with your return, and if they need any additional info from you. Oh, and don't forget to ask for an estimated timeframe!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

Totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken π€

Claimyr's service might be niche, but for those who value their time highly, it could be a worthy investment. However, it's understandable that some may feel paying for such access highlights issues in the current system.

Update: I finally got through to someone! They said there was a 'processing error' and they needed to verify some info. Should be sorted in 2-3 weeks. Fingers crossed! π€

'2-3 weeks' in government time is like 2-3 months in real time π

Its ridiculous how long this process takes. In this day and age, you'd think they could process refunds faster. The government needs to get with the times!

It sounds like you're not alone in experiencing delays with your state tax refund. Many others have reported similar issues, especially during peak filing seasons. Firstly, it's crucial to stay proactive. You've done the right thing by checking the status onlineβthough it often just says 'processing', it's still a necessary step. When you decide to call, ensure you have your tax return details, social security number, and any other relevant documentation at hand. When on the call, inquire about any specific problems with your return, whether additional information is required, and an estimated timeframe for resolution. Claimyr might be an option if you find getting through to the state tax agency particularly frustratingβpeople have reported it saves time, but be mindful of the cost. Lastly, consider preparing your taxes ahead of time for future seasons to avoid such bottlenecks. While delays are frustrating, keep in mind that errors or identity verifications can cause these hiccups. Stay patient, persistent, and polite when communicating with the tax agency, as they are often overwhelmed with calls during busy times. Good luck, and here's hoping your refund arrives soon!

Here's what you need to know about state tax refunds: 1. Processing times vary: It can take 2-12 weeks, sometimes longer during peak seasons. 2. Reasons for delays: - Errors on your return - Identity verification - Additional review needed 3. What to do: - Check online refund status first - If no info, call the state tax agency - Be patient and polite (they're probably swamped) 4. When calling: - Have your tax return and ID ready - Ask about status, any issues, and estimated timeframe - Get a reference number for the call Remember, persistence is key. Good luck! πͺ
