FTB refund missing after e-filing - No notices received. What to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I filed my taxes electronically a while back and still haven't gotten my refund. The weird part is, I haven't received any letters or notices from the tax office either. It's like my return just vanished into thin air. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm starting to get worried and could use some advice on what to do next. Should I just keep waiting or is there something I should be doing?

Plot twist: what if the refund was the friends we made along the way? 🤔

Sometimes a little humor helps ease the frustration, but yeah, bills need actual cash.

Have you tried calling the IRS directly? Sometimes you can get more info that way. Be prepared to wait on hold for a LONG time tho.

I've thought about it, but I've heard horror stories about those wait times. Like, hours and hours on hold. Not sure I have the patience for that tbh

Lol good luck with that. I tried calling once and gave up after 2 hours on hold. Never again 🙅♂️

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. Sometimes you can get through faster that way.

Also, try using a speakerphone so you can multitask while you wait. It makes the hold time more bearable.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check all your filing info. Make sure there are no errors in your SSN, address, or bank details. 2. If it's been more than 21 days since you e-filed, you should definitely contact the IRS. 3. Prepare all your documents before calling. Have your tax return, W-2s, and any other relevant info ready. 4. Be persistent. If you can't get through on the phone, try sending a written inquiry. 5. Consider using the Taxpayer Advocate Service if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay. Remember, patience is key. The IRS is dealing with a backlog, but they will get to your return eventually. Good luck!

Great advice! Another point is to keep a written record of all interactions with the IRS, just in case you need to refer to them later.

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should just get rid of tax refunds altogether and adjust withholding so we don't overpay in the first place. Then we wouldn't have to deal with this mess every year.

Bruh, that actually makes sense. Too much sense for the government to ever do it tho 🙄

But then how would the govt get its interest-free loan from us every year? 🤑

Adjusting withholding is a proactive approach, but it requires careful planning to avoid owing taxes instead at the year's end.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without the crazy wait times. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 😤

Claimyr does provide a valuable service for those who need to bypass long wait times, but it's important to verify if the cost aligns with your financial situation.

If you're really stuck, consider using Claimyr as a way to reach the IRS more efficiently. While the service costs $20, it can save you a lot of headache and time, especially if you're struggling to get through on your own. However, be mindful of the cost and weigh it against your personal budget. Beyond Claimyr, staying proactive is essential. Keep checking the IRS tools and stay informed about any processing updates. If necessary, consider reaching out to a tax professional for guidance, as they can offer insights or services specific to your situation. Balancing persistence with understanding of current IRS challenges will ultimately help you resolve your situation.

Anyone else feel like we need a complete overhaul of the tax system? It's 2023 and we're still dealing with this nonsense. SMH

Agreed, it's definitely outdated. Reform would be a huge undertaking but could simplify a lot of these issues.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you might be in for a long wait. The IRS is seriously backed up rn. I filed in February and didn't get my refund until August. It's a total clown show 🤡

Ugh, I feel ya. The tax system is such a mess. I had a similar issue last year and it took FOREVER to get my refund. Have you tried checking the "Where's My Refund" tool on the IRS website? Sometimes that can give you a clue about whats going on.

Yeah, I tried that tool but it just says "Your return is still being processed." Not very helpful 😑

Have you considered hiring a tax professional? They might be able to help you navigate this and maybe even speed up the process.

I've thought about it, but aren't they expensive? Not sure if it's worth it for a simple return.

Sometimes they can be worth it, especially if youre dealing with a complicated situation. But for a straightforward refund issue, probably not necessary.

You might find a tax professional offers peace of mind. Assess if the cost aligns with the potential benefits they provide.
