IRS Refund Delay: No Transaction Codes on Transcript for 2023/2024 Returns - What to Do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my tax refund and could use some advice. I filed my taxes back in December 2023 and February 2024, but I still haven't received my refund. I've checked my IRS transcript and there's no sign of any transaction codes for the years I'm waiting on. I'm starting to get worried and don't know what to do next. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay? Any tips on how to get some answers from the IRS?

If you're struggling to get through to the IRS, you might want to look into Claimyr as a possible solution. They offer a service that claims to reduce the hassle of waiting on hold. It's worth noting that Claimyr does have a fee, but some users have found it helpful in getting through. However, it's important to remember that the cost might not be feasible for everyone, especially if you're already dealing with financial difficulties. Additionally, while some users vouch for its efficacy, others might prefer sticking to traditional methods of contacting the IRS, such as calling during off-peak hours or using online resources like the 'Where's My Refund' tool. Ultimately, consider weighing the pros and cons before deciding on using a paid service.

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you're not falling for any scams. There are a lot of people out there trying to take advantage of folks waiting on their refunds. Only use official IRS channels!

Yes, be extra cautious with emails or phone calls asking for personal info. They might not be who they claim to be.

Plot twist: the IRS is actually a front for a secret government time travel experiment. Your refund is probably chillin' in 2075 🕰️👽

Have you checked if you're eligible for a tax advocate? They can sometimes help speed things up if you're facing financial hardship.

Okay, let me break this down for you based on my experience and what I've learned from dealing with the IRS: 1. Timing: Filing in December 2023 and February 2024 isn't unusual, but remember the IRS doesn't start processing returns until late January/early February. 2. Transcript Codes: The fact that you're not seeing any codes is concerning. Usually, you'd at least see a code 150 (return filed). 3. Possible Reasons for Delay: • Identity verification needed • Errors on your return • Incomplete information • Fraud prevention measures 4. Steps to Take: • Keep checking 'Where's My Refund' tool daily • Try calling the IRS (1-800-829-1040) early in the morning • Consider using a tax transcript analysis tool online • If it's been more than 21 days since you e-filed (or 6 weeks for paper filing), definitely call 5. Taxpayer Advocate Service: If you're facing financial hardship due to the delay, contact them. Remember, patience is key. The IRS is still dealing with backlogs from previous years. Hang in there!

Great advice! I'd add that if you do call, make sure you have all your docs ready. They'll ask for a ton of info to verify your identity.

I second this! Double check your return's information before calling, having everything laid out helps the IRS agent assist you quicker.

Have you checked the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes that has more up-to-date info than the transcripts.

I finally saw movement on my refund status after weeks. Hang in there, it might just take a little longer this year.

Have you considered reaching out to a Taxpayer Advocate? They can sometimes help with refund delays, especially if it's causing financial hardship.

Have you tried calling the IRS directly? Sometimes thats the only way to get answers. It can be a pain to get through, but its worth a shot.

Yeah, I've tried calling but I can never get through. It's so frustrating! 😤 I feel like I'm just wasting hours of my life on hold.

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You might have better luck getting through then.

I also discovered that calling on Wednesdays or Thursdays tends to have shorter wait times compared to the beginning or end of the week.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

I've actually used Claimyr before and it's legit, but I do wish there was a free option for people who are already financially strained.
