IRS 2022 Tax Refund Delay: What to Do When 'Where's My Refund?' Isn't Helping

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I filed my 2022 tax return but haven't received it yet. It's been a while and I'm starting to get worried. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on what I should do next? I've tried checking the "Where's My Refund?" tool but it's not giving me much info. Should I call the IRS? I'm not sure what to expect if I do. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

The sooner you get the amendment in, the sooner they can correct it. You got this!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your documents: 2022 tax return copy, any IRS notices, proof of filing. 2. Check your bank account info is correct on your return. 3. Try calling early morning or late afternoon for shorter wait times. 4. When you get through, be polite but firm. Ask: - Can they confirm receipt of your return? - Are there any issues or additional info needed? - What's the current status and expected timeframe? 5. Take detailed notes during the call. 6. If they give you a timeframe, mark your calendar and follow up if needed. Remember, patience is key. The IRS is dealing with a backlog, but persistence usually pays off. Good luck!

Great advice! Also, if you’ve moved recently, make sure your address is updated with them.

Plot twist: what if the IRS owes US interest for late refunds? 🤔💰

Bruh, don't get my hopes up like that 😭

Actually, they do pay interest on late refunds! After 45 days from the filing deadline.

Yeah, but the interest isn’t much. Better than nothing though!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

$20? That's steep. Why should we pay to talk to the IRS? 🤔

I get the skepticism, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

I tried it too and it worked for me. Although I wish there was a free option, sometimes convenience is worth the cost.

Have you tried calling them? I know it's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

I haven't called yet. Honestly, I'm dreading it. Heard the wait times are insane.

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might get lucky and get through quicker.

If you don't have luck with calls, try reaching out on social media. Sometimes they respond there too.

Hey OP, did you file electronically or by mail? Paper returns are taking WAY longer to process this year.

Abigail Spencer

I filed electronically. Thought it would be faster but I guess not 😩

Electronic is usually quicker, but this year is an exception with the backlog.

Ugh, I feel ya. I'm in the same boat. Filed back in March and still nothing. The IRS is a black hole this year 🕳️

It's frustrating, isn't it? I've read that there are still pandemic-related delays. Hang in there!

Anyone else miss the days when refunds came in like 2 weeks? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

To answer your question, OP, many people are experiencing delays with their tax refunds this year. The IRS has been facing an unprecedented backlog due to various reasons, including the aftereffects of the pandemic and staffing challenges. If you haven't already, double-check your refund status using the "Where's My Refund?" tool online. Sometimes it updates unexpectedly. As for calling the IRS, it’s true that wait times are long, but speaking to a representative may be necessary if there are issues with your return. Consider using services like Claimyr, which help you navigate the IRS phone system more efficiently, although there is a cost involved. It’s important to gather all relevant documents before making the call, such as a copy of your filed return and any IRS correspondence. Lastly, remember to be persistent yet patient—delays, unfortunately, have become more common in recent years.

Unpopular opinion: maybe the government should, idk, FIX THE SYSTEM instead of making us jump through hoops every year? 🤡
